Kansas City, MO, Still Whatever Day It Was The Last Time

Kate was still utterly, utterly excited about having handed in her flight attendant's application. And why shouldn't she have been? It had only been like fifteen minutes! The only change was that she was on the bus on her way home now.

And as she checked her phone, she found a voicemail from Jack, and a handful of messages from Bod. The former made her raise an eyebrow because bwuh, when had she been ignoring Jack's calls, and hadn't they talked like three days ago? As for the latter, she wondered he'd managed so many texts in such short a time, but didn't even read more than the first. This was a thing that needed to be talked about so she could properly squee about it.

So, deciding to call Jack a little later, she picked Bod's number. She was pretty sure he was at work (and she was right, albeit off by two weeks reagarding the date) but whatever, she was calling him right now anyway. How busy could Luke's be?

"It seems like I do," Bod pointed out, sighing and relaxing somewhat. "I always seem to mess things like games up. I'm not very good at them."

"You do not always mess games up," Kate replied with conviction, reaching out to rub the back of his neck. "Of course, I'm counting things like state capital naming, but still."

"Maybe it just seems like I do," Bod murmured, enjoying that despite himself. He couldn't stay moody when she was doing. "And that game doesn't count."

"Excuse you, anything that involves massive orgasms for me totally counts," Kate argued while her fingers worked gently at his neck. "So that does. It was a game, I lost, and it was awesome."

"Maybe I just got lucky that day," he said, trying to hold onto his pitiful nature for a bit longer.

Kate thwapped him lightly on the back of the head. "No, that was me. I got lucky."

"Ow." It hadn't hurt. "I just don't want to irritate you by being slow or not understanding or saying the wrong thing. I'm honestly trying."

"You don't irritate me," she replied. "And I know you're trying, just as I know that didn't hurt."

"It did hurt."

It hadn't, she was right.

"I am trying. I am."

He even nodded to drive that point home.

"It did not hurt." Just to make that clear. "It's not nice to lie even if you then immediately tell the truth about something else."

"There was some slight pain," Bod insisted and hid a small smile. "It caused a brief headache."

"Oh, screw you, you big liar," Kate sighed. "There was no headache."

"How do you know?" Bod wondered, laughing. "You can't feel my pain. There could have been a headache and there was!"

"Liar," she replied, shaking her head against his back. "You're lying. I can't do anything about your false headache."

[therewaslife]

"That's unfortunate since my headache was quite bad at the time," he sighed, shaking his head. "I suppose your closeness right now is helping things."

"Mm." She nuzzled his back, for the hell of it. "Helping your imaginary headache that is already gone? Well, I guess that's good."

[therewaslife]

"It wasn't imaginary," he said and laughed at himself. "It was just...exaggerated."

[vanillajello]

"No, it was imaginary," she replied. "I didn't hit you hard enough."

[therewaslife]

"Perhaps my head is really quite sensitive," Bod murmured, closing his eyes and enjoying how warm she was against his back. "Maybe that's a new thing I picked up in the two weeks it's been for me."

"I doubt that," she replied, but her voice was a little softer. "Was it a really bad two weeks? I'm sorry."

[therewaslife]

"Don't apologize, you had no control," Bod said, shaking his head. "It was a....yes, it was quite bad. But, it's over now and I'm fine."

[vanillajello]

"I can still be sorry." Because he'd sounded bad on the phone. Relieved, but bad. "But you're here and all comfy now."

He'd just been terrified that she'd been lost forever. He didn't think he could really deal with that.

"I am," he agreed, stretching out slightly underneath her. "I'm here and comfortable now. You're very warm and light against my back."

"Mm, thank you," Kate replied, smiling a bit. Proving she would take just about any compliment she could get, yes. "Our bed has missed you."

"Has it?" Bod murmured, smiling again. "How could you tell that?"
