Room 324, Friday Evening

After everything that had happened over the last week, and what little had happened today, Kate was just so very glad to have a completely unrelated thing to focus on.

And right now, that thing was the thought of getting a new fake little sibling tomorrow. So, she'd been putting together a little welcome kit with some useful items. It felt a little dorky, but it was pretty fun, actually, doing that. And distracting, which was the important thing.

She'd even considered baking a batch of cookies, but then decided against it both because there'd be enough food at the welcome picnic, and she wasn't really feeling the idea of standing in the common room baking right now. She'd just offer to bake the kid something at a later date.

So now, Kate was just sprawled on her bed, making a refresher list of all the things a newbie to fair Fandom island should be told on their first day.

And she was eating chocolate. Chocolate was a good thing.

"I'd just follow you around with my book of poetry," he decided. "I don't think you could run away from me all that easily."

"Why would you be so cruel to the woman you claim to love?" she wondered. "I mean, is it even going to be good poetry?"

"Well, I wouldn't write it myself so of course it would be good," he laughed. "And I'd do it because I do love you and think you deserve poems."

"Poems I would be running away from."

Something about this just didn't seem logical.

"If I wrote the poems, would you run away from them?" Bod wondered.

[vanillajello]

"Depends on what they'd be like, I guess," Kate replied, shrugging a shoulder. "If they were horrible, yes."

[therewaslife]

"You wouldn't listen to them because you love me?" he asked, trying to look as adorable as he could mange.

[vanillajello]

"Well of course I'd listen to some of them," she said, unable to stop herself from grinning at all the adorable. "To judge whether they were horrible. But if they were horrible, I'd be gone."

"But where would you go?" Bod asked, still using his adorable face at her. "You would only know me there."

"I'd find a place to hide," she said, wrinkling her nose at him. "Stop being so cute."

"You would want to hide from me?" he asked, ignoring her last request so he could continue smiling adorably and looking adorable.

"Hey, you're the one who originally said you'd hold my hand so I couldn't escape from poems!" she protested. "I'm just operating under the impression that any poems you're gonna read to me are gonna require me running away."

"I said that because I didn't think you liked poetry!" Bod protested with a laugh. "If you like poetry, maybe you won't run away!"

"I don't think I categorically like or dislike poetry," Kate mused, before leaning closer to press her forehead against his. "Don't make me run away."

"I wouldn't," he said, lowering his voice and smiling now. "I don't want you to run away. I won't read you any poetry. Maybe I'll just find another book to read you."

"You can read whatever you want to me," she promised quietly, smiling too. "I don't really care."

"It might be relaxing," he said, closing his eyes only so he could feel a little more acutely and intensely while she was close. "You could just lay across my lap in bed and I could read to you."

"Mm." Kate moved her arms a bit, got her other hand so that she could brush her fingertips slowly back and forth against the back of his neck. She was here, and close, and touching. "Sounds... vaguely romantic, I guess. Comfortable."

"Even if it was something you don't want to listen to, you could just listen to my voice and fall asleep," he pointed out, smiling slightly now. "It would be comfortable. It'd be quiet. It'd be insulated and it'd just be you and me."

"And that would probably be the best there is," she said, closing her eyes, keeping up the slow touches. "Just me and you, no one else."

"It would be the best there is," he promised, nodding and sighing at those touches on his neck. "And once you woke up from that nap, I'd go get you food. Something unhealthy and full of sugar and you could just lay around in those extremely short shorts you like and a nice, comfortable shirt."

"This is souding better and better," she remarked with a quiet chuckle. "You know me so well."

"I've had time to learn," he said, pleased with hearing her say that anyway. "And I'm completely serious about doing this, Kate. It's not just talk."

[vanillajello]

"I know." She did now, anyway. "And I'd really like to. Find us a tiny inn in a tiny town and I'll come with you."

"I will. I'll start looking this week," he promised, nodding. "And then we can go and be anonymous somewhere. Stay inside a small room all day or go outside and enjoy the sun. Whatever we want."
