Room 324, Sunday Morning

Uncharacteristically, Kate was awake first. Not that that meant much: it wasn't like she'd moved yet or anything. Why would she have, when she was all wrapped up in blankets with Bod and could just enjoy his body heat and his familiar smell and feel all right there, close to her?

... Well, actually, she could think of a reason. It just came to her, suddenly, something they'd talked about, something she'd put some thought into later. She was warm and happy and it seemed like as good a time as any, probably for those very reasons.

Trying to move as slowly and smoothly as she could, so as not to wake Bod up yet if she didn't have to, she reached to fumble the drawer of her bedside table open for a notebook she knew she had there.

Bod was comfortable enough that some of her movements didn't even wake him. He shifted a bit in his sleep to compensate for losing her touch against him but he stayed asleep, face buried in one of her pillows.

Even more slowly, Kate pushed herself into more of a sitting position once she had the notebook and had managed to find a pen as well. The blanket slid off her top half, leaving her half exposed as she hadn't exactly bothered to get dressed again last night. It didn't bother her.

She found the pages she wanted in the notebook, then glanced at him and his adorable sleeping form, before starting to read through them, seeing whether she wanted to change or add anything.

Oh, he'd be sad to miss seeing her all naked and smiling like that. But, he was too busy curling up on her side and smelling her scent in the pillows and the blankets.

Sleep hadn't loosened its hold on him all the way yet so he was content just dozing peacefully and having no idea she was doing something for him.

At least Kate wasn't intending to let him sleep through everything, even if she was happy to let him sleep for just a little while longer, as she worked on her final alterations.

Occasionally sneaking glances at him because it was impossible to resist. And also because she wanted to keep an eye on his progress on the scale from asleep to awake.

Bod had started to register that she wasn't there anymore and was slowly starting to come out of his doze. His eyes hadn't opened yet but he was moving around some, stretching out and sighing every so often while he worked closer to being awake.

Which was also adorable. Sorry but she thought it was.

Once finished with what she was doing, Kate leaned over him a bit again. "Hey, sleepyhead," she said, quietly.

"I'm not sleepy," he mumbled, cracking an eye open and smiling sleepily at her. "I've just been resting my eyes for the past few hours."

Kate smiled softly at him. "I'm sure you have," she murmured. "It looked very restful."

"You're up early," he said and yawned before turning onto his back and smiling up at her. "Is everything all right?"

"Everything's super," she assured him before looking just a touch shy. "I have something for you."

"Is it the fact that I can currently see you half naked?" Bod asked because that was a pretty nice gift, he had to admit.

Kate laughed, glancing down at herself. "No, that's not it. Though it's very nice, isn't it?"

"It's very nice," he said and grinned wider. "What do you have for me? I wasn't expecting anything today."

"You should always expect the unexpected." Carefully, she tore the page from the notebook. The text was on both sides, passages had been blacked out when she hadn't liked them.

She held the paper out for him, looking just faintly apprehensive. "It's just... something I started writing right after we got back together. I think it's finished now."

"All right," Bod said, taking the paper carefully and reading the words on the page. And then he read them again. The poem, parts of it, were a little sad so he couldn't say he smiled but he wasn't unaffected.

In fact, he was very affected and after he'd read it a third time, all he could really do was lean forward and kiss her gently but lingeringly.

Kate figured that was a good reaction. Not one she'd been expecting but one that she would gladly take, responding to that kiss in kind, sweet and lingering.

As for the sad parts, well, that was what you got with honesty.

He didn't kiss her too long though before pulling back and smiling at her, forehead against hers. "That's a beautiful piece of writing, Kate. It's beautiful and sad and lovely."

"Thank you," she replied quietly, smile tenpered by him being so close to her. "I didn't mean it to be sad."

"It's all right," he said, reaching up and brushing his fingers across her cheek lightly. "Life is a bit of a sad thing. But, it's also a bit of a happy thing too. We do our best to get through the sadness and revel in the happiness."

"It's too early to philosophize," she teased quietly, turning her head just a bit to get more of his touch. "But yes."

"And I want you in all your completely messed up glory," Bod promised, nodding. "I want you however I can have you and I'll love you no matter what."

"You can have me any way you like," Kate replied, quiet and sincere. "I love you too."

"Thank you for writing for that for me," Bod said quietly, tilting his head up and kissing the spot underneath her eye. "It's one of the best gifts I've ever received."

"It was nothing," she murmured, caught up in a rare bout of modesty, eyes closed and just enjoying the affection. "Just... wanted to get it out there. You've written several for me."

"Oh, it was very much something," he said and kissed her cheek and nose this time. "I know that type of thing is hard for you so doing it for me makes me feel very special."
