Room 324, Saturday Evening

Yes, Kate had gone a little overboard with her drinking last night. She had also spent a good portion of today being glad that Bobby had already taken off for the weekend and that Bod was working at the library, so that no one had been around to interfere with her intense desire to just die.

But at least the party had been a success. An by the time evening came, she was feeling a little more functional. Once the headache and nausea had abated, she'd finally called home, just to chat about inconsequential stuff with her mom. Just to hear her voice, and make promises of coming to visit soon. She'd even made up an entirely fictional problem with their dorm room shower just so she'd had a reason to ask her mom to put her dad on the phone.

And after that, without considering it long, she'd left a voicemail for Bod. She'd only been outside the room once the whole day, to get food once she'd felt like she could keep it in, and having seen there were... island things happening again, she'd pretty much decided to keep to her room, probably for the majority of the weekend.

And right now that translated to leafing through an old issue of Cosmopolitan, because this was not the day for anything even remotely intelligent.

Bod had gotten Kate's message after he'd taken a short nap of his own once his time at the library had been done. It made him smile, the fact that she wanted to play house so after taking a shower, he'd wandered downstairs.

The door was cracked but he knocked anyway, just waiting to see if she was in there and awake.

"It's open," Kate called absently from where she was sprawled on her stomach on the bed, still flipping through the magazine. "Although if you're someone affected with Fandom crazy, I'd rather if you stayed outside."

It was worth a shot.

Bod hadn't even realized there was anything weird going on. He pushed the door open and slipped inside, closing it behind him.

"I've come to play house," he said and smiled at her. "Hullo."

Kate looked up, a pleased little smile spreading on her face. "Hey," she said. "You came."

"Of course I came," he said and pushed away from her door. "Why wouldn't I come? I could never get tired of you. Are you feeling all right?"

"Well, I no longer wish for death for myself, the Vikings, the Egyptians, and whoever it was that first decided 'hey, this alcohol thing might be a great idea'," Kate replied wryly, shrugging a bit.

"You seemed to be having a good time of it last night," he said, taking a seat beside her. "You were sleeping quite fitfully last night while I was still here."

Kate rolled onto her side and propped her head up on one arm so she could look at him. The magazine could be left alone for now. "Well, I was drunk."

That explained everything about last night, she felt.

"So, everything last night was the result of you being intoxicated?" he asked. "Everything?"

She paused, twisting her lips thoughtfully. "Well, maybe not quite everything..."

[therewaslife]

"Well, that's good to hear," he replied, smiling. "I wouldn't want to think what we did was just a result of drunkenness. I know it might have contributed but it wasn't everything."

"Well, I think I may have restrained myself a little better if I hadn't been that drunk," she told him, nodding. "But no, that wasn't entirely because of my boozing. You are hot, and I wanted you. I generally do."

The alcohol had just helped her concentrate on that.

"I am hot?" Bod repeated, almost always blushing when he heard that. "I was slightly drunk last night too. I might have been a little sloppy."

"Oh come on," Kate said, bending one of her bare legs so she could nudge him with her knee. "I didn't notice. I was probably sloppier anyway."

"Probably," he said, reaching to curl his fingers around her knee and pull her closer. "So, what does playing house entail?"

"I have no idea." She twitched a bit. the back of her knee was ticklish and she couldn't help it. "Eating, sleeping, quarreling over unpaid bills?"

"That sounds very exciting," he said and stroked his finger underneath her knee now. "Do I get to spend the night?"

"Of course," Kate replied. And squirmed a bit. "Unless you don't want to. Or, we have one of those rows where you need to go sleep on the couch."

"What couch?" Bod asked, glancing around. "Do you have a tiny, invisible couch that I'll have to sleep on?"

[vanillajello]

"There are couches in the common room," Kate pointed out. "You could use one of those. Or we could pretend Bobby's bed is a couch, although he might flail about that."

[therewaslife]

"What if the cause of the row was your fault?" Bod asked curiously. "Would you go sleep on the couch?"

[vanillajello]

"No, because this is my room," she pointed out, as if it was obvious. "And the chick always gets to stay in the bed, anyway."

"Why is that?" Bod asked and was actually serious about the question. He couldn't help it, things like this confused him.

[vanillajello]

"I don't know," Kate replied. "Chivalry? Or, maybe it's usually the woman that does the whole ordering thing, y'know, banishing the guy from the bed? Could have something to do with how women are way more likely to withhold sex to get what they want."

"I was just curious," he explained and leaned forward to kiss the top of Kate's knee. "I love your skin, Kate. It's so soft and lovely."
