Yes, Kate had gone a little overboard with her drinking last night. She had also spent a good portion of today being glad that Bobby had already taken off for the weekend and that Bod was working at the library, so that no one had been around to interfere with her intense desire to just die.

But at least the party had been a success. An by the time evening came, she was feeling a little more functional. Once the headache and nausea had abated, she'd finally called home, just to chat about inconsequential stuff with her mom. Just to hear her voice, and make promises of coming to visit soon. She'd even made up an entirely fictional problem with their dorm room shower just so she'd had a reason to ask her mom to put her dad on the phone.

And after that, without considering it long, she'd left a voicemail for Bod. She'd only been outside the room once the whole day, to get food once she'd felt like she could keep it in, and having seen there were... island things happening again, she'd pretty much decided to keep to her room, probably for the majority of the weekend.

And right now that translated to leafing through an old issue of Cosmopolitan, because this was not the day for anything even remotely intelligent.

Despite plans to the contrary, Kate had never made it to the slumber party. It was probably for the best, since after that one big bit of news and stupid hurt, all she really remembered of the evening was a whole lot of booze, and making big declarations on something about giraffes and how they would recognize Nathan as their king. She couldn't remember coming down to her room, though apparently she had.

So when she woke up to the cold with her head a little fuzzy and a lot in pain, at first she thought it was just Bobby's powers acting up. But no, soon enough she figured it was too cold for that, and it was too dark (though her aching head was actually grateful for that) and she could hear the blizzard outside, and all she could think was that this felt really familiar. Except for the hangover. That was new.

She got out of bed for for just long enough to slowly pull on some more clothes and then find a painkiller and down it with a glass of water, before crawling right back into bed and making herself a nest from all her blankets.

So not going to class, no way.

Kate had had a lot of fun at the dance. A lot of fun, and a lot of spiked punch.

It was no surprise, really, that today was not the best day Kate had ever had.

She had woken up feeling intensely hungover. She didn’t have any painkillers, so – in a very, very dumb move – she had decided to bravely face the carnival without them.

It didn’t exactly work out, and she’d eventually been forced to get pills from town. She’d returned to the carnival for a while after that, but it hadn’t taken her long to figure out that she just couldn’t do it. Getting lost in the house of mirrors and subsequently wanting to cry were pretty good signs of that. She’d headed back to the dorms.

The lights were out, the door was closed, and Kate was lying on her bed, slowly starting to feel like a human being again.
