Hawi, Hawaii, Thursday Morning

While Fandom sunk deeper into madness, strange things were afoot on another island too. Kate had snuck out of bed a bit earlier than necessary, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

... It was strange if you knew her.

She had the radio on at low volume, and was dancing around a bit in her well-worn Hola Gato pajamas as she made pancakes to be served with syrup. There was already some crispy bacon waiting on the counter, and an assortment of fruit. And Donkey Balls, because there was nothing like making your boyfriend blush over suggestively named confectionaries at breakfast. Especially after you'd already tormented him with them at the store the day before.

Kate was evil. But she was also making breakfast, so she supposed that evened itself out.

"I know that," she told him, and smiled fondly. "I just tried to bait you into telling me. Or showing me. Or something."

"I'm sorry," he said, sounding and looking embarrassed again. "I'm not always...good at things like this."

"No," she agreed, "but you're you, so I love you like you are. So, what are we gonna do now?"

"I don't know," he said, rubbing at his red cheeks. "What would you like to do?"

"Well, I think we've killed the mood dead, now," Kate replied with a laugh. "So... Maybe I'll just join you in there and we'll see where things go?"

"You should join me," Bod agreed, scooting over as best he could and reaching a hand out to her. "I think we can regain the mood in a bit. Or we can just cuddle."

"Most likely both," she chuckled, as she moved to carefully climb in beside him. "I've cheated you out of two kinds of cuddles today."

"I forgive you," he said, trying to gather her close to him. "Do you forgive me for being inept?"

"You're not inept," Kate chided, lightly, as she settled close, draping one leg over his. "You're just learning."

[therewaslife]

"I am inept," Bod replied, swinging them back and forth in the hammock and sighing. "I can be inept and still be learning. It's all right. You still like me anyway."

"I don't like inept people," she claimed, lazily. "So you can't be one. Sorry."

[therewaslife]

"You like getting your way, don't you?" Bod asked, laughing. "Fine, I'm not inept. I'm just...dealing with the unfamiliar."

"Exactly," Kate nodded. "And you're dealing with it as best you can. And yes, I like getting my way. Doesn't everyone?"

She just found it more important than most, maybe.

"Yes," he said and chuckled while he settled against her. "Of course they do. You've gotten your way now. What are you going to do with that?"

She drew a heart over his chest. "Haven't decided yet. I might just let you be and enjoy your shower-fresh scent. Or I might help you in your learning experience."

Bod laughed and sighed quietly. "Either one sounds very wonderful. Very wonderful. Feel free to get your way with those choices as well. Feel free."

"How gentlemanly of you," Kate snickered, shifting her leg against his. "I love you."

[therewaslife]

"I love you too," he murmured, pressing a kiss against of the top of her head. "I love you so much."

"So much," she echoed. "You too. And your lack of experience and your blushing and your boxers."

[therewaslife]

"Thank you," Bod murmured, laughing. "I apologize for putting pants on and taking those away from you."

"I left you in bed alone, then made you shower alone too," Kate pointed out with a chuckle. "I think we're even."

[therewaslife]

"We're even," he said and nuzzled the top of her head. "We're back on level ground. It's all all right."

"And together," she replied, sighing. "Do you think we could get a hammock in Fandom too? Ooh, or, maybe we could convince Char that we need one in the backyard?"

[therewaslife]

"Where would we put it on the island?" Bod wondered, stretching out and sighing. "I bet your aunt could be convinced. I'm sure telling her I'll cook and clean and shop for her for a month would be enough."

"But you're not gonna be there for a whole month, are you?" Kate teased. "Which means that'd mostly end up being me, doing all of that."
