Overland Park, KS, Sunday Afternoon (Late July)

It was the last day of July, and a sunny Sunday afternoon in Overland Park. Tara had wanted to throw a party in the Gregsons' backyard for the end of summer and the return of her daughter and every good thing she could think of, and so it had come to pass. There was food, and people (some neighbors, some friends from a little further off, and Bod who'd already shown up last night), and a karaoke machine set up under the arch that had been prettying up the back yard ever since Charmaine had failed to get married, earlier in the year.

Everything was pretty perfect. All that was missing was the hostess, though, because no one actually knew where Tara was, but... They were sadly used to that. So, Max was grilling, Charmaine and her belly were off to the side having a Diet Coke she shouldn't have been drinking, Ted was mingling with some people, and Lionel was filming Kate and Marshall.

And the aforementioned Gregson siblings? Were singing their hearts out, doing an enthusiastic karaoke version of Mmmbop. They looked to be enjoying themselves.

It was looking to be a good day on Oak Avenue.

Luckily, it wasn't much harder than dodging the edge of the dresser, and Kate knew the room well enough to blindly steer him past that. And after that, it was straight on to the bed.

It wasn't a large room, so his legs were going to be hitting the edge of the bed soon.

Soon enough, his legs did hit the edge of the bed and he decided to pull away from her gently so he could climb backwards onto the bed. He'd promised to get into the bed as soon as he saw it and he had no intention of reneging on that promise.

Kate did not mind that. No, that meant she could smirk and climb onto the bed as well, and crawl over him.

"Hullo."

[therewaslife]

"Hullo," he returned, reaching to brush her hair back behind her ears. "Are you comfortable up there?"

"I am," she said, nodding down at him, leaning into his hand without even thinking about it. "You're a comfortable thing to be on top of."

[therewaslife]

"Thank you," he laughed, settling down once he'd gotten comfortable underneath her. She was keeping him warm and keeping him happy right where she was. "You're a comfortable thing to be underneath."

"Thank you," she replied, ducking her head down so she could rub her nose against his. "Nice of you to say. I heart you, English Muffin."

"I heart you too, Cuddle Bunny," he said, lowering his voice since she was so close to him now. "I heart you quite a lot. Don't let yourself forget that."

"I won't," she promised in a murmur. "I won't. And you shouldn't forget that I love you too. Okay? Someone is always thinking of you, wherever you are."

"I won't," he said, smiling and leaning up to lightly kiss her. "I know that you love me no matter where you are. I've got the ring as tangible proof and your words as everything else I need."

"Mmm." Words and kissing didn't always need to go together. "That's very very good. Very good."

Shush, she was being affectionate. She could say inane things.

"Yes, it is," Bod agreed with another light. "It's very, very good."

And Bod could follow her into the land of saying inane things. He didn't always need to be eloquent about things.

"Mm, good." She should've just shut up and concentrated on making out. "I like you."

[therewaslife]

"I like you too," he said, chuckling quietly. "I'm glad you like me. It feels good to know that."

"It's easy to like you," she murmured, between kisses. "It's really easy. I just have to look at you and I like you."

"You're very sentimental right now," Bod said, tracing her lips when he wasn't kissing her. "Very affectionate."

[vanillajello]

"Your fault," Kate repeated from earlier. "For acting so perfect. Standing up for my right to make my own mistakes."

[therewaslife]

"I'm not perfect," he said automatically but that did make him smile. "Everyone has to make their own mistakes. It's how people learn. You shouldn't be any different."

"Perfect," she reiterated. "To me, you are. Don't argue."

[therewaslife]

"Very well," he said, laughing as he did. "I won't argue. If you want to think I'm perfect, I won't argue with you."

Out loud.

"You'll still argue with me in your head, I know it," Kate replied, kissing the tip of his nose. "But that's good enough. I'll take it."

[therewaslife]

"Perhaps," he said, laughing at how well she knew him. "But, I won't argue out loud and maybe I'll even come to believe you. But, I can be perfect in your eyes. That's a good thing to be."

[vanillajello]

"Yes it is." It was so very rare that she came across perfection in her eyes. "Now, shush and let me make out with your perfection."

"Your wish is my command," Bod replied quietly, smiling up at her and bringing her down closer to him. "Anything you want."

[vanillajello]

"Mm. That's you."

And she was going to proceed to tell him how deeply she believed just that, now. Her kisses could be very expressive, after all, and she was intending to spend enough time on it to make it perfectly clear to him.
