Kansas City, MO, Still Whatever Day It Was The Last Time

Kate was still utterly, utterly excited about having handed in her flight attendant's application. And why shouldn't she have been? It had only been like fifteen minutes! The only change was that she was on the bus on her way home now.

And as she checked her phone, she found a voicemail from Jack, and a handful of messages from Bod. The former made her raise an eyebrow because bwuh, when had she been ignoring Jack's calls, and hadn't they talked like three days ago? As for the latter, she wondered he'd managed so many texts in such short a time, but didn't even read more than the first. This was a thing that needed to be talked about so she could properly squee about it.

So, deciding to call Jack a little later, she picked Bod's number. She was pretty sure he was at work (and she was right, albeit off by two weeks reagarding the date) but whatever, she was calling him right now anyway. How busy could Luke's be?

"No." He shook his head. It was the principle of the thing. "Ignore it."

"No," she replied, and shook her head as much as she could in her position. "Take it back."

"No." He shook his head and smiled down at her. "Ignore it."

"Nope." She picked her head up and slid her arm from around his shoulders. "No. Uh uh."

"Very well," he sighed, shrugging and turning his attention back to the food on the bed. "I did try."

That was just an opportunity for Kate to pout at him, so very sadly. Did she have a good reason to do that? Not really.

She also generally didn't need one.

Bod knew she had no good reason to do that so he just shook his head at her and ate a few onion rings he'd brought from the island. He wasn't going to wilt under her pout that easily.

Kate was just gonna keep on pouting though. So sadly. Sticking her lower lip way out.

She was going to make it tremble if she had to.

"You're not going to win this one," Bod said, shaking his head and shifting around so he could press his face into one of the pillows and hide his eyes from the pouting she was doing.

Kate doubted his words. She doubted them quite a lot. "Well, I hope you enjoy your boring 24 hours of no affection."

"I'm sure I'll manage," he said, voice muffled. "Don't you worry about me now."

Fine. Sighing in an exaggerated way, Kate picked up the food and got up, wandering over to the desk and taking a seat there, instead.

They were never going to just act like a normal couple.

Bod knew she'd gotten up and he had a moment of fear that he'd genuinely upset her. He peeked out from the pillow to glance over at her and try and gauge if she was really upset.

Not so much, though she made sure to pout sadly at him as soon she caught him looking.

Well, after nibbling on an onion ring.

"Why are you over there?" Bod asked, frowning at her. "I'd like you to come back."

"You didn't take back your rule," Kate pointed out. She even drew in a shuddering breath, like that had deeply hurt her.

Except for how she was still picking at some of the food. "And then you said you could manage without affection."

[therewaslife]

"And you didn't ignore a ridiculous rule that you know I didn't mean," Bod pointed out, shrugging one shoulder. "It's not entirely my fault."

[vanillajello]

Pooout. She couldn't have overdone it more. "But you made your choice," she replied. "Didn't you?"

"And you made yours," Bod pointed out, trying to go toe to toe with her on this one. "It's not really fair that I be blamed for it all, is it?"

"Not all," Kate allowed, peering into the bag of food like it was the saddest thing in the world. "But me being over here, yes."

[therewaslife]

"That's untrue," Bod argued, shaking his head. "You used affection as a way to manipulate me to go your way. When that didn't work, you took it away. It's not my fault."

[vanillajello]

"Wow. Okay." The fake piut went away, replaced by a light frown because now she was starting to feel like a bitch for real. "I'm sorry."

[therewaslife]

"I wasn -- " Bod's words died on his lips and he immediately felt awful for ruining the game. "I apologize. I just don't -- "

He didn't know how things worked still and it was embarrassing. He turned his face back into the pillow and closed his eyes tight.

Well, they both sucked at this game. Kate's face fell, and she got up and came over to the bed, climbing in next to him on her knees. "Come on," she murmured, "don't get embarrassed."

"It's far too late for that," he replied, voice muffled. "I didn't come here to make your face do that and it did and I apologize."
