Bucharest, Romania, Sunday

Far, far away from any and all dungeon drama, two people were about to celebrate having managed to stay together for two whole years. (Well, two years plus the one half they'd managed the first time around.) Naturally, it warranted portaling out of Kansas for a trip. Kate had planned this one, and since Kate loved to pick places with significance sometimes, she'd picked Romania, since it was where one of Bod's childhood pseudo-parents had come from. And because it was in Europe and the internet had made it seem like there was enough to see in Bucharest on a trip lasting a few days.

Assuming they'd actually come out of their superior double room at the Marshal Garden Hotel. Which they'd just walked into for the first time.

"... Oh my God, I love it."

There were bright colors and big flower motifs on the carpet. Of course she loved it.

"Wow," Bod said, eyes wide. "It's so bright! And big! And bright!"

He liked it too, yes. "This is excellent."

"It is?"

Well, she'd picked this so his approval mattered to her here a little bit more. She grinned at him. "I think so."

"We could have stayed home and it would have been excellent," Bod assured her. "But this is truly excellent. I haven't ever had a chance to visit Romania. I hadn't even thought about it. It's amazing."

"No, you're amazing," Kate told him, finally droipping her bag on the floor so she could step closer and kiss him. "I'm glad you like it. I chose it for you."

"You did?" Bod asked quietly since she'd come closer. "Thank you. I don't know what to say."

And he truly didn't. He'd thought it'd been just a coincidence but hearing now that it wasn't, well, his heart lurched and he felt a little warmer than he had before.

"Thank you."

"No problem," Kate murmured, winding her arms around his neck and leaning in. "Of course I picked it for you. I want this to be special. And Romania's special to you so it's special to me too."

"Well, you have picked an amazing room," he said, looping his arms around her waist and bringing her closer to him. "I imagine the rest can only get better. I didn't know you'd planned so much."

"Oh I've planned a lot," she replied, smirking at him. "Soooo much. Excursions and activities and I have a schedule by the minute."

Okay that was joking.

"All right, I can believe you have some activities that you want to do but a minute by minute agenda?"

Bod shook his head. "I don't believe that." Because he knew her very, very well.

Kate leaned in very close, trying to press her forehead to his.

"Can I tell you a secret?"

You could tell by her amused look that it was going to be really serious stuff.

"You can tell me anything," he said, leaning his forehead against hers and smiling. "Anything you'd like."

"I don't actually have minute by minute agenda," she said, in a stage whisper. "Or even an hour by hour. We have reservations for the restaurant in a couple of hours, that's it. That's the fixed schedule."

"I am so shocked," he said even if he wasn't. "Just stunned. Now, how are we going to manage our trip?"

Kate gave him a little kiss. "We'll play it by the ear," she murmured. "Like always. Like we have for the past two years."

"Two years," he said with a smile. "That's quite a long time."

[vanillajello]

"It's a really long time," she agreed. "And we've known each other for three which makes it even longer. But two years ago to the day, you were naked in my bed after a fire drill, and you asked me if I wanted you to be my boyfriend again."

[therewaslife]

"And you said you wanted me to be your boyfriend again," he recalled with another smile. "And to think, you really hated that fire drill."

Kate snickered. "I did, it was horrible! There was rain coming from the ground, Bod, it was the worst ever. And I remember you had to like mostly carry me upstairs when it was done."

"Yes, but look what it birthed," Bod said with a chuckle. "Who knows what might have occurred without that fire drill?"

"Oh, I don't know," she mused, giving a little nudge with her hips to move backwards in the general direction of the bed. Or maybe she just wanted to press her hips to his. "I think our anniversary would've just gotten pushed back with like a week or so."

"You're probably right," he said, taking a few steps backwards after she'd nudged him with her hips. "Still! The fire drill has to have some sentimental value for you."

"A bit," she admitted, ducking her head to kiss his neck. "But not so much as to want to recreate it. Other than by taking showers with you. With water that's a pleasant temperature and also going in the right direction."

[therewaslife]

"Well, good thing I didn't plan that for our anniversary," he said with a soft sigh. "I would have had to change all my plans. I'm glad I went with something else."

He was kidding, of course. "But, I don't want to recreate that either."

"No, I think recreating the morning after is much more easy and pleasant," Kate murmured, once they got to the bed. "Because waking up without clothes is not that foreign a concept to us in our everyday life, either."

"We just got here," Bod snickered, shaking his head. "I've barely put my bag down."
