An Ice Creamery, Baltimore, Early Sunday Afternoon

Friday had been pretty spectacularly bad, and the less said about it the better. Saturday, Kate had just laid low and recuperated. And today, today was just one of those days she had to get off the island. It was just a necessity, being outside in the normal world. Not getting yelled at by vampires, not singing things that were better kept silent.

So she'd come here, to this ice cream place. She'd been happy here once, months and months ago, flirting and drawing out some of the very first of those blushes she'd later come to love so much. This was a good, non-crazy place to be spending a Sunday afternoon in.

She had a big bowl of ice cream and her laptop in front of her, and was currently busying herself with following some of Knatasha Knightblade's advice from a few weeks ago by setting up an Amoozoo wishlist for Princess Valhalla Hawkwind.

Picking out things she wanted was like therapy. She'd be here a while.

it's not as generally adorable. but it's better in other ways.

Yes, it needed to look like that so he'd understand how much she meant it.

I am awake and all alone. Jacob went home. No wonder he'd slept so long. He hadn't heard anyone moving around or coming and going. Where are you?

That was a question best answered in a way other than words. Or it could've just as easily been answered in words, but she just felt like not.

So she scooped up a spoonful of ice cream, held it up to her mouth and smiled, and snapped a picture of herself and then sent it to him.

Ice cream? Bod guessed even if it was obvious. Hullo, Kate and ice cream. You're going to be cold after you finish that.

no i won't. and it's kate and ice cream and baltimore, actually.

Because that was somehow relevant.

Are you working today? Bod asked while finally getting out of bed so he could go find a pair of pants. Baltimore?

no more work. quit on thursday. She'd just forgotten to mention that when everything had started going a little crazy. just chilling now.

Bod frowned and stopped walking halfway between his bed and his closet. You quit?

i quit, yes.

Kate wasn't finding it that big of a deal, unsurprisingly.

Why?

Bod had actually thought she liked that job or, at least, liked that it got her away from the island and put money in her pocket.

got boring and didn't pay enough to justify it.

She really needed an emoticon for a shrug.

Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. Are you looking for something else now?

Bod, meanwhile, finally located pants and his legs immediately felt warmer.

slowly. probably. might look for something on the island.

She could always get off the island for other reasons. It had been getting kind of annoying to have to come up with lies for Jarrett about being sick every time Fandom pulled its dangerous stunts, anyway.

He didn't think he could help but he couldn't help offering.

ice creamy, she replied. lazy. all that sunday stuff.

I can let you go if I'm interrupting, Bod sent, sitting back down on his bed and rubbing his eyes again.

Kate rolled her eyes. Didn't matter if he couldn't see it.

you are not interrupting. you're making me sad by being so far away but you're not interrupting.

Did you want me to come find you?

He'd gotten as far as pants but he was sure he could manage to find her.

if you want, she sent back. doubt i'll be going anywhere else too soon.

Bod shook his head. I asked if you wanted that, not me.

i have no preference, she claimed. if you stay there i can send you mushy longing texts, and if you come here i can pretend i'm not sliding my leg against yours.

I don't know if I should get dressed or not.

Those both sounded good and he'd gotten himself confused enough that he was scratching his head while standing in the middle of his room.
