Somewhere in Maryland, Friday Evening

So, Kate and Bod had decided to get the hell off the island and away from the constant rain of future Japan. They'd packed some stuff, rented a car, and off they'd gone.

They were... somewhere in Maryland, now. Kate wasn't exactly sure where, and didn't particularly care, though maybe she should have, since she was currently driving and all. Maybe they'd know where they were going once they saw it.

She glanced over at Bod. "Can you try and find something good on the radio?" She was still too much of an old lady driver to start fiddling with the car stereo while they were in motion.

"I definitely do like hearing it, though," Kate replied with a smile. "But yes. What do you want to do first? Go for a swim, walk around, see if we can get ourselves kicked out in record time?"

One of those was not like the others.

"You're beautiful," Bod said again, smiling. "And I think we should take a walk. We can perhaps take a swim on the way, right? We can do both."

"Those can even be combined by walking in shallow water," Kate noted. "You wanna change clothes before, or are you good to go? Putting your shirt back on is definitely not an option."

"It's definitely not an option?" Bod asked, moving towards his bag. "And why is that?"

"Because I want to look at you shirtless," she replied easily. "Because you're hot."

[therewaslife]

"You're flattering me," he said, smiling. "Let me change and I'll rejoin you. I wouldn't want to get my pants soaking wet if I don't have to."

"Go change," Kate replied, nodding at him like she was giving him permission. Jokingly. "I'll be right here."

"I hope so," Bod said and then disappeared into the tent so he could change into his swimsuit. It didn't take him too long before he emerged in a pair of blue and yellow striped trunks. It wasn't as daring as her swimsuit but it would do for swimming.

And for her ogling him. It was largely just to see if she could make him blush, because that never failed to amuse.

"Nice," she smirked, reaching for his hand. "Shall we?"

"We shall," he said, laughing and trying to hide his blush by looking at the sand. He took her hand and started tugging her along the shore. "We seem to be one of the few on the beach. It's like it's all ours."

"I know," she sighed happily, giving his hand a little squeeze as they walked. "Which is good. I don't want to deal with anyone but you tonight."

"So, we shouldn't invite anyone to have dinner with us?" Bod asked, completely teasing. "No want of making new beach friends?"

[And I must jaunt to work for a few hours!]

"We don't need new friends, beach or otherwise," Kate informed him, very seriously. But not really. "Not tonight. I'm not going to share you with anyone."

"That's not a problem with me," Bod informed her, squeezing her hand. "You're making me feel very wanted."

Kate smiled at him. "Well I should, because you are," she said. "You're wanted. You're the only one who is."

[therewaslife]

"How wanted?" Bod asked, playing her game of asking questions of quantity. He swung their hands back and forth and pulled her a little further towards the water.

"Very wanted," Kate replied, easily going along with it, albeit snickering at recognizing the type of question as one of her own. "More wanted than a cherry lemon Squishy, Vivienne Westwood shoes, or sunshine in Fandom at this very moment."

Bod chuckled and kept swinging their hands. "That sounds like I am very wanted. And you know you can have me, right? I'm yours to want and have and enjoy."

"I think I may have heard something like that once or twice," she joked, smirking. "I think I've taken advantage of that a few times too."

[therewaslife]

"Well, you heard it again," Bod reiterated, nodding. "I wouldn't want you to suddenly forget and not know that very important fact. I'm not only good for pitching tents."

"No, you're not," Kate agreed. "You're good for many many many things. Like walks on the beach!"

[therewaslife]

"It doesn't take much to be good at walks on the beach though," Bod pointed out, moving close enough to the water that the waves washed around his ankles. "All I have to do is walk and talk and walk some more."

"Yes, but you're doing it with me," Kate retorted, giving his hand a little tug. "Which instantly makes it into more of a challenge. I'm a challenging person."

[therewaslife]

"You're a very challenging person," he agreed, answering her tug with one of his own. "You excel at being challenging. It's part of what makes you you."

"I know." She glanced down at her feet and how her toes were digging into the wet sand with each step, then tugged on his hand again. "I'm awesome like that."
