Hawi, Hawaii, Thursday Morning

While Fandom sunk deeper into madness, strange things were afoot on another island too. Kate had snuck out of bed a bit earlier than necessary, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

... It was strange if you knew her.

She had the radio on at low volume, and was dancing around a bit in her well-worn Hola Gato pajamas as she made pancakes to be served with syrup. There was already some crispy bacon waiting on the counter, and an assortment of fruit. And Donkey Balls, because there was nothing like making your boyfriend blush over suggestively named confectionaries at breakfast. Especially after you'd already tormented him with them at the store the day before.

Kate was evil. But she was also making breakfast, so she supposed that evened itself out.

And Bod was still out in the hammock, swinging slowly in the wind and listening to the sounds around him. He couldn't hear her yet, of course, but he could hear the breeze and the birds and other quieter things.

It wasn't hard to spot him in the hammock. Kate made her way over slowly, walking barefoot in the grass and enjoying how that felt.

She had no idea what was going to happen next but hey, at least she was coming to him.

Bod wasn't really sure either but as she drew closer, he turned his head and opened his eyes to see her. He smiled, though, because it was good to see her and she didn't look angry with him at the moment.

No, she didn't. She even answered his smile with a little one of her own as she stopped right by the hammock.

"Hey."

[therewaslife]

"Hullo," he returned, still smiling. "How are you?"

[vanillajello]

"Feeling stupid," she replied, honestly, glancing down. "That's mostly it."

[therewaslife]

"You're not stupid," Bod assured her, shaking his head. "No one's stupid. Don't feel like that."

[vanillajello]

"Tell that to my brain," she replied, wryly. "It's less than convinced."

"Why does your brain feel stupid?" Bod asked quietly. "You didn't do anything wrong."

[vanillajello]

"My flirting fail made you take a shower by yourself," Kate pointed out. "I think there was a little bit of stupid there."

[therewaslife]

"I didn't know that was flirting," he said and felt embarrassed again. "I apologize."

[vanillajello]

"Don't," she replied, and huffed out a laugh. "That's where the fail part comes in, see?"

[therewaslife]

"Yes, but I should know by now," he said and felt his cheeks turning red. "I should know how to flirt with my girlfriend and I don't."

"I should know by now too," she countered. "I should know my boyfriend has a funny brain like that, and flirt accordingly."

Bod blushed again and rubbed his cheek. "I'm sorry you feel you have to flirt differently with me."

[vanillajello]

"Flirting should be person-specific, anyway," Kate replied, waving a dismissive hand. "I just need to be a bit more obvious with you. I mean, one of the earliest memories I have of you is you failing to notice I was flirting with you."

And then he'd asked her to do it again in case he'd be able to flirt back. It had been a lot adorable, actually.

"Well, it's good to know that my skills haven't improved at all," Bod said and laughed in embarrassment. "I'm awful."

[vanillajello]

"No, you're wonderful," she corrected. "And you've improved. But I should keep in mind that if I want you to come up to me and fondle me, I probably need to tell you that in so many words."

"You seemed a little stuck on my idiotic rock answer," Bod said, shaking his head at the misunderstanding. "I thought you'd gotten fed up with me trying to play."

[vanillajello]

"No, that was a cue for you to drop the rock thing," Kate replied with a quiet laugh. "And let me know you do like me better."

[therewaslife]

"Of course I like you better," Bod said, nodding. "Of course I do. I love you."

[vanillajello]

"I know that," she told him, and smiled fondly. "I just tried to bait you into telling me. Or showing me. Or something."

[therewaslife]

"I'm sorry," he said, sounding and looking embarrassed again. "I'm not always...good at things like this."

[vanillajello]

"No," she agreed, "but you're you, so I love you like you are. So, what are we gonna do now?"

"I don't know," he said, rubbing at his red cheeks. "What would you like to do?"
