As requested/ordered, Kate had gone and gotten her face checked out by a doctor yesterday, and then spent the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing. Today was turning out to be much the same, except her face was sightly less sore to the touch, and she was waiting for Bod to show up after his workshift.

And while she was doing that, she was reading up on all things Osaka and Japan on the internet, and trying to learn useful phrases in Japanese. It was a quiet day in the Craine – Gregson – Kowalski household. Charmaine and Neil were downstairs, presumably reading yet another one of the dozen baby books he'd bought after the false labor fiasco. Who'd have tought he'd be the responsible one?

It was funny to think so with a still-bruised face, but maybe things were starting to look up a little bit.

"Huh?" Kate was a little slow on the uptake when it came to what had caused that. "Oh, no, no. It wasn't -- I'm just a little overly careful out of reflex."

"I'm still sorry," Bod said, flexing his fingers a bit and still looking contrite. "I'll keep my hands to myself."

"No, I don't want you to do that," Kate replied with a shake of her head, stepping closer and reaching for his hands. "Come on."

"You flinched when I touched you," Bod reminded her, letting her take his hands. "I know it wasn't my fault really but still."

Kate brought his hands up to her cheeks, but at safe distance from her nose.

"I fliched 'cause you touched my bruised parts," she corrected him. "Everywhere else is fair game."

Bod still looked slightly shaken by what he'd done. "I'm sorry. I really am. I thought I was touching you light enough that you wouldn't even feel it."

"Reflex, I told you," Kate said, softly. "I didn't really feel it but believe me, I've been poking at the bruises way too much, so my body knows it can hurt."

"I apologize for not warning you," he said, frowning. "I won't touch your healing bruises anymore."

"Thank you," she murmured, kissing his knuckles softly. "They're not gonna hang around for too long, anyway. I'm sadly a pretty good judge of healing."

"What did your physician say?" Bod asked, sighing at that soft kiss.

"That everything's a-okay," she replied, lowering their hands and shrugging. "No fractures, no permanent or major damage done to anything."

"Good," he said, nodding. "Did he give you anything for the pain?"

"Nah." She shook her head. "I'm fine with the regular stuff. It's enough."

"All right," he said, nodding before glancing around and getting his focus back. "Thank you for going, though. Shall we eat?"

"We shall," she agreed, letting go of his hands, though only after a little squeeze. "I'm starving."

"I'm quite hungry too," he said, reaching for the plates. "I ate a small breakfast but haven't really eaten since then. I was on a focused mission to find a giant stuffed animal."

"Dude, you went without eating to find me a huge bear?" Well, that totally merited a delighted little laugh. "Aww. That's so sweet."

"I wasn't sure how you'd be feeling and I wanted to have something that would make you smile and was soft and would make you think of me," Bod explained perhaps a little shyly.

Kate smiled at him. "Mission accomplished, dearest Nobody," she said. "It's totally soft and smileworthy and will make me think of you. Arigatō."

"Is that...Japanese?" Bod guessed curiously. "You're welcome."

"I've been trying to learn phrases," Kate grinned, as she reached for her plate. "Just, you know, basic stuff. Thank you and hello and good evening and stuff like that."

"That sounded quite good," Bod complimented, opening up the various containers of moddable Chinese food. "You'll be an expert in no time."

"Thanks, I just hope to get by," she replied, smiling a little shyly but maybe that was just because she was looking down at the food, picking and choosing things from the containers. "I mean, they say I can get by on English but it probably makes a better impression if I can be polite in Japanese, right?"

"I think the fact that you're trying will mean a lot," Bod replied, smiling. "You're going to try and make yourself a part of their culture and that's a hugely hard thing to do but you're going to try."

"Apparently I am," Kate agreed, and laughed a little at the absurdity of it. Plate filled, she padded over to the bed to take a seat next to the giant teddy bear. "This guy's gonna need a name, by the way."
