Kansas City, MO, Still Whatever Day It Was The Last Time

Kate was still utterly, utterly excited about having handed in her flight attendant's application. And why shouldn't she have been? It had only been like fifteen minutes! The only change was that she was on the bus on her way home now.

And as she checked her phone, she found a voicemail from Jack, and a handful of messages from Bod. The former made her raise an eyebrow because bwuh, when had she been ignoring Jack's calls, and hadn't they talked like three days ago? As for the latter, she wondered he'd managed so many texts in such short a time, but didn't even read more than the first. This was a thing that needed to be talked about so she could properly squee about it.

So, deciding to call Jack a little later, she picked Bod's number. She was pretty sure he was at work (and she was right, albeit off by two weeks reagarding the date) but whatever, she was calling him right now anyway. How busy could Luke's be?

Kate trailed soft kisses up his jawline. "Yeah, by making rules that limit my freedom to express myself."

"You act as if you're going to follow my rule," he murmured, losing some of his focus. "I know you, Kate, you enjoy breaking the rules. I have no doubt you'll break this one as well."

"That is not the point," she informed him quietly, right by his ear. "The point is that it's an unfair rule."

That probably didn't matter.

"I apologize for my unfair rule," he said quietly, slouching even more towards her. "Perhaps I'll take it back at some point."

He paused and sighed.

"It just won't be right now."

"Why not right now?" Kate wondered, winding her arm around his shoulders and kissing the spot right behind his ear. "Is there something you'd rather be doing than taking back your bad rules?"

[therewaslife]

"Mmm hmmm." Of course there was something he'd rather be doing than taking back rules. "Perhaps later but not right now. I'm sure that if you ask me again later, I'll take it back."

Kate sighed, trying to sound oh so put upon, but mostly just breathing a puff of air against his skin. "So, what would you rather be doing? Making me jump through hoops to get your rule taken back?"

"Absolutely not," he mumbled, giving his head the tiniest shake. "What I'd rather be doing is what you're doing to me right now. That's what I'd rather be doing. Just that."

Kate was smiling despite herself, after that. She shifted a bit and murmured the next words against his neck. "Idle kisses?"

"Yes." He hummed that answer out and barely nodded again. "Yes, idle kisses. I'd like to do that instead of taking back my ridiculous rule."

"You do realize I could just withhold the kisses," Kate pointed out, not that she was doing that, "and force you to take back your rule right now, don't you?"

"Mmm, we both know my rule isn't going to last so why stop doing something we're both enjoying just to make that inevitable conclusion come sooner?" Bod wondered quietly.

"Because it's not as much of a hardship as you're trying to make it sound." She kissed his neck again. "It's just words."

[therewaslife]

"And the rule staying in effect for a little while isn't as bad as you seem to making it," Bod countered, smiling. "It's just words. They don't need to go away immediately."

"Except the rule states this is one of those moments where I should just nod and quietly agree," Kate retorted. "Because you're not making any sense."

[therewaslife]

"This moment is an exception to the rule," Bod said, amused at how she had to make this difficult. It was so like her and so endearing to him for that reason.

There was not a thing in the world that Kate wouldn't make difficult if given half the chance. It was in her nature.

"Your rules suck," she informed him, then nipped at his spot of skin on his neck. "They do. They suck, dude."

Bod did laugh this time, unable to stop himself. "And you're making quite the deal over a rule that is going to be taken back and ignored, aren't you?"

She was the boss. He knew that so he knew the rule wouldn't stand.

"Just 'cause you're refusing to take your rule back," she returned, giving that same spot of skin an idle lick. "Don't act like it's just me at fault being ridiculous right now."

[therewaslife]

"If you would ignore my rule for just a little while, this would all be moot," Bod reminded her with another chuckle. "You just can't ignore it."

"And you can't let go of it." They could be here all day. "I rest my case."

[therewaslife]

"There was no case to rest," Bod said, laughing again. "It's just a ridiculous rule and it's not even being followed. So, it's already been squashed for the most part. There's no need to concentrate so much on it."

Kate pulled back, though not far. In fact, she still ended up resting her chin against his shoulder. But at least she wasn't kissing anything.

"So, take it back."

[therewaslife]

"No." He shook his head. It was the principle of the thing. "Ignore it."

"No," she replied, and shook her head as much as she could in her position. "Take it back."
