Today, at least in the multiversal timezone Fandom was in, was Valentine's Day. And not only that, it had also been ten months to the day since a boy from England and a girl from Kansas had woken up together and decided they really rather wanted to go back to being boyfriend and girlfriend. Their first attempt at that had only lasted six months and change, so ten months was kind of a huge deal. So they were celebrating.

In Kansas.

Hey, at least it was in Topeka and not KCMO! Kate had never been, and it was actually turning out to be pretty okay. Or maybe that was the company. They had the hot tub suite booked for later at Senate Luxury Suites, but right now they were still at Gage Park, in the Reinisch Rose Garden. It was fall in Kansas, as evidenced by the leather jacket Kate had on over her dress, but since the garden over six thousand bushes of more than four hundred varieties of roses, some of them were still in bloom, and it was pretty enough for her.

She was all smiles, carrying her bag in one hand and holding one of Bod's with the other as they strolled along. "This pretty gorgeous for Kansas, don't you think?"

Chuckling again, Bod draped the new piece of clothing over his arm before taking out a long, thin case.

He handed it to her and ignore the price tag omg said, "For you, on our anniversary."

"More jewelry?" Kate asked, smirking, as she took the box. "Ooh."

Of course, as soon as she'd actually opened the case, her eyes widened and she beamed at him.

"Oh my God, it's gorgeous and totally not Jeremy Darling levels of expensive! And it matches my ring, awww."

"That's why I got it," Bod admitted, smiling. "I thought it'd look professional while you work but beautiful for when you're not. I don't know your dress code but I was hopeful."

"It's within my dress code, don't worry," Kate grinned, leaning towards him for a quick kiss. "I love you. And I love your gift. Thank you."

"I love you and your gift as well," he said, smiling into that kiss. "Happy ten month anniversary. Happy sixteen months together in all."

"Mmmm." Yes, she was really, really happy about that, and kissed him again for good measure before stepping back and holding the necklace out for him. "Can you help put this on?"

As if she was going to wait, come on.

"Of course," he said, taking the necklace and moving behind her. "Hold your hair up for me, please?"

Kate could definitely do that, gathering her wavy hair up from her shoulders.

"It really is pretty," she said, smiling to herself. "Thank you."

She'd already said that, but she didn't care.

"You're welcome," Bod said, clasping the necklace together around her neck and then settling it comfortably on her chest. "How does it feel?"

"Very natural," Kate replied, smirking over her shoulder at him while bringing a hand up to touch the necklace. "Like it belongs there."

"It does," he said, leaning down and kissing the back of her neck. "It belongs there like you belong with me."

"Ooh, possessive, are we?" Kate snickered. "Or just crazy in love?"

[therewaslife]

"Can't it be both?" he asked, leaning over for a light kiss. "I'm crazy in love and possessive about that, yes."

Kate chuckled against his lips. "Well I think it's safe to say the long-distance thing hasn't been too much of a strain on you."

[therewaslife]

"It hasn't. I know I just want you so I'll wait for however long and as far away as I have to," he said quietly. "I'd wait forever for you, Kate. You're just that important to me."

Kate moved to embrace him, at those words. She couldn't not.

Oh, boyfriend.

"Likewise, except probably less well put."

"You'd just put your own unique spin on those words," he said, embracing her and bringing her close to him. "Has the distance been difficult on you?"

"Eh." She rested her head against his shoulder, with a sigh. "I like having my space, you know? But I like knowing I have you. And I love seeing you."

"I love seeing you too," Bod said, holding her tighter now. "And I'll be graduating soon enough so maybe you'll get to see more of me than you do now."

"Maybe," Kate replied, and sounded distinctly pleased about that thought. "You have any plans for post-graduation yet?"

[therewaslife]

"Nothing solid, no." He shook his head at that. "I still want to travel and I'd like to make a visit back home, talk to my parents but after that, I'm going to play it completely by ear, I think."

"That sounds very like you," Kate replied, and it was a compliment. "Take me with you on some of your wanderings?"

She was pretty sure the answer was yes, but she wanted to ask anyway.

"Absolutely," he said, leaning down and kissing her cheek. "You're the only one I'd take. I'd love to see the world with you, Kate. I know that might not be possible since the world's so big but we can definitely see parts of it together."

"And it's not even just the world, but the multiverse," Kate pointed out, smiling. "We can try."

That would be fun, too.

"And I do think trying would half the fun," Bod said, moving to press a kiss against her forehead. "We could try and fail and get stuck in a small town and find out it was the best thing to ever happen."
