Room 324, Monday After Classes

Kate was twitchy. She supposed it was a natural side effect of knowing one of her best friends was pretty much going to walk into his death in a few days, and she was supposed to go... see him off, or something. That was not something she wanted to be dealing with.

So after classes, she'd pulled on her PVH garb, and sat down in front of her computer. This was easy, this was so far removed from everything else going on in her life. She got to talk about the whole Princess Valhalla mythology, and random other stuff too. In fact, she was just in the middle of a good rant about the latest season of one of her favorite trashy shows when the guy on the screen (fourth_mister, again) interrupted her.

"Uh, I'm sorry but... I don't actually watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey."

Kate blinked, a little taken aback. "Oh," she said. "I... thought you said I could talk about whatever I wanted."

"I did!" the guy assured her hastily, and gave her a smile. "But now I wanna do something else."

Well. This was unexpected, but she supposed she was game. At least to find out what it was he wanted to do. "... Okay. What?" If it involved her taking her clothes off, she was so not doing it.

"Do you have any cake?"

What? Kate laughed, just because that went way over her head. "Cake?" she repeated, then sobered up some, because she really had no idea where this was going. "Why?"

"Um... I was hoping you could, um..." He swallowed. "Sit on it?"

Uhh. Kate didn't even know what to say to that. After a moment of hesitation, she told him she didn't really have the means to fulfill his request at the moment, but that she'd think about it, and then she announced she had to go, and ended the chat.

With a sigh, Kate started changing out of the costume into some regular clothes, her mind buzzing with several different kinds of things all at once.

This time, Bod smiled softly and looked amused. "I meant today specifically. I hope this specific Monday changes into something less difficult for you. I didn't mean in general."

"Oh." Maybe her slight disorientation was showing after all. "Well, this one's not bad for a Monday. I did some princess stuff, and we got to blow shit up in weapons class."

Bod nodded quietly. "What sort of princess stuff was on the agenda for today? I haven't seen another video appear lately."

"I don't think I'm gonna be doing any more videos," Kate replied with a brief shake of her head. "Doing stuff live on webcam now."

[therewaslife]

"Webcam?" Bod repeated, only vaguely familiar with that sort of thing. "Like...singing and dancing?"

[vanillajello]

"Just... talking." She shrugged again. "They're like phone calls but with video."

[therewaslife]

"Talking with people you know?" Bod asked since that was what phone calls were to him for the most part. "Why not just use the phone?"

"'Cause these are people who wanna talk to Princess Valhalla," Kate explained. "It's not complete without them actually seeing me. Plus, they have to be online to get to my wishlist anyway."

"Oh." Bod...didn't really understand but it sounded harmless to him. He nodded. "All right. I hope you're having fun, then. I'd say I'd try and talk with her some day but I honestly prefer you."

"Mm, and you can have me," she told him, giving his shirt a couple of light tugs. "The princess can be for other people."

"Are they...nice people?" Bod wondered, having to ask just out of straightforward concern.

[vanillajello]

"They're mostly just these pretty awkward, geeky guys," she said. "Not people I'd generally hang out with, but totally harmless."

[therewaslife]

"I just..." He looked a little embarrassed and shrugged. "...wanted to check. It's hard to gauge people just by a conversation so. I just wanted to check."

Kate smiled oftly a bit, and reached to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Sweet," she murmured. "It's totally fine, I promise."

She wondered whether she should mention the cake thing. But she didn't want to, so...

"All right. I trust you," he said, nodding and smiling slightly himself. "I hope things go well, then, and you get...what you need."

"Which is money and things," she replied, bordering on cheerful for a moment. "I think it should work out well for that."

[therewaslife]

"Money and things," he said, making a face briefly mostly because he didn't see how talking to someone made them want to give her money. "It sounds difficult."

[vanillajello]

"Oh, it's actually ridiculously easy," she replied, shaking her head. "They buy me stuff off my wishlist, I talk to them. Simple."

[therewaslife]

"I understand but it doesn't make sense to me," Bod admitted shrugging. "I'm strange, though. I wouldn't buy anyone anything just for talk so I can't see why it would be different but I'm not them."

"And that's a good thing for me," Kate noted. "Because if they were like you, I wouldn't get anything, and if you were like them, we wouldn't even be dating."

[therewaslife]

"Right." Right? Bod was pretty sure that was a good thing. He scratched his head though. "Right?"

Kate raised an eyebrow at that. "You're unsure?"

Oh, like she'd never been.

[therewaslife]

"No, that's not what I meant," Bod said, shaking his head. "I'm just trying to follow the logic. It became a little twisted. Why would I be unsure?"

"You just sounded unsure," Kate shrugged. "I don't know why you'd be that, that's why I asked. But if you're not then that's fine."

[therewaslife]

"No, there was just a lot of if then statements and I wanted to make sure I had it right," he said and frowned. "I'm not unsure."

He was just worried about her.
