Somewhere in Maryland, Friday Evening

So, Kate and Bod had decided to get the hell off the island and away from the constant rain of future Japan. They'd packed some stuff, rented a car, and off they'd gone.

They were... somewhere in Maryland, now. Kate wasn't exactly sure where, and didn't particularly care, though maybe she should have, since she was currently driving and all. Maybe they'd know where they were going once they saw it.

She glanced over at Bod. "Can you try and find something good on the radio?" She was still too much of an old lady driver to start fiddling with the car stereo while they were in motion.

"It is," Kate agreed, sufficiently distracted from her mild innuendo. She even stopped for a moment to kick off her shoes and pick them up so she could walk barefoot in the sand instead. "So glad we decided to get off the island."

"I am too," Bod agreed, smiling over at her. "It was a very good idea. It's nice to feel the breeze from the ocean and not feel the rain hitting my head."

"Yeah," she sighed. "Also, it's good to have kind of a normal view again. The uber techno city gets a little depressing."

"It'll be an excellent spot to watch the sun set," Bod said, walking a few feet more before settling their things in the sand. "I think...we are here. Is this good? We're close enough to the water to hear the waves but far enough away to not wake up with waves nipping at our tent door."

"This is perfect," Kate assured him, then smiled all too sweetly at him. "Are you gonna pitch the tent now?"

"I am," he said and wondered if that smile was actually sweet or sweetly devious. "I was going to lay you out a blanket first so you could sit and relax but after that, I'll put the tent up."

Oh, her smile was almost never just plain sweet. She snickered. "If by 'sit and relax' you mean 'heckle and tease' then yeah, that sounds good."

"You're very opportunistic," Bod said but he did get a blanket out from his bag and spread it out on the sand for her before gesturing to it with a hand. "Your blanket await, dearest."

"Thank you," Kate smirked, and plopped herself down on said blanket, sitting cross-legged and smoothing her skirt over her thighs. "Now, entertain me by doing all the hard work. Bonus points for if you take your shirt off."

"How does one get bonus points today?" Bod asked, reaching for the tent and unfurling it. He tossed the stakes and ties in a pile before moving away from her to start setting up the large tent he'd purchased awhile ago.

"By taking your shirt off," Kate repeated. Because she really just wanted to see him shirtless. "If you can work up a sweat, that's worth something too. And..." She tilted her head, thinking. "I don't know. Extra special romantic sweet nothings?"

"This sounds like quite the challenge," Bod said but he did tug his t-shirt up and off. He balled it up and tossed it her way. "So, I've already earned bonus points, yes?"

"Definitely," she replied, catching his shirt and making sure to leer at him. Appreciatively. "And don't ask me what you can get with those bonus points because I don't know. It can be like one of those arcades where you bring all your tokens to the counter and get to choose your own prize."

"What if I get a sunburn while I'm doing this?" Bod asked, setting back to work on the tent. "I'll be useless if that happens."

"I will nurse you back to health," Kate promised him. "And you're not gonna get a sunburn, come on."

"If you say so," Bod replied, giving her another smile before he actually focused on the tent so it could be pitched and set up before the sun went down and they lost too much time.

And Kate watched, mostly. Occasionally she glanced out at the water, and smiled at the view.

And eventually she reached for her bag to search it for important things. Like her bikini.

It didn't take long before the tent was up and Bod was wiping sweat off his brow. "I think we're just about ready to go. Did you want to go inside and make sure it all looks good?"

Kate pushed herself up and traipsed over. "And maybe slip into something a little more beach-appropriate while I'm at it?" she wondered. "Sure."

Bod just laughed and picked up his discarded shirt to wipe some perspiration off of his forehead while he waited for her to change and reappear.

"I'll be right here," he called, crossing his arms and looking out at the ocean.

Kate didn't take too long. She only needed to climb in, change her clothes and then leave her bag inside.

When she reappeared, she was wearing her bright yellow seashell bikini. And a smirk. Always a smirk.

As soon as he spotted her, Bod's eyebrows arched up near his hairline. "Oh. Wow. That's. Wow."

"Do you like it?" she asked, smirk widening into a grin. "You're kinda being too inarticulate to tell."

Of course, that may have been an indication of how he felt about her attire, too.

"It's very nice," Bod said, nodding and not taking his off of the new swimsuit. "Very...it's different and it looks amazing on you."

"Thank you." She struck a cute little pose. Of course she did. "I like it too."
