Hawi, Hawaii, Thursday Morning

While Fandom sunk deeper into madness, strange things were afoot on another island too. Kate had snuck out of bed a bit earlier than necessary, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

... It was strange if you knew her.

She had the radio on at low volume, and was dancing around a bit in her well-worn Hola Gato pajamas as she made pancakes to be served with syrup. There was already some crispy bacon waiting on the counter, and an assortment of fruit. And Donkey Balls, because there was nothing like making your boyfriend blush over suggestively named confectionaries at breakfast. Especially after you'd already tormented him with them at the store the day before.

Kate was evil. But she was also making breakfast, so she supposed that evened itself out.

"All right," Bod said, nodding. "Should I clear our plates? Or are you intending to go back out there?"

"I didn't make any plans," Kate replied, tilting her head at the bottles of juice. "Besides, don't you have rocks to fondle?"

"I...suppose?" Bod didn't sound too sure of that though. Confusion was his default state in most instances. "I'm going to go take a shower, then. I'll, uh, clean things up when I'm done."

He felt a little embarrassed about the whole rocks thing so he left quickly to hide any evidence of that fact.

And Kate sighed and rested her head against the side of the fridge door. She wasn't quite sure what she'd been going for there, but that reaction definitely wasn't it.

But she figured she should've anticipated it. After all, it wasn't them if they didn't get their wires crossed every once in a while.

Bod wasn't sure what she'd been going for either so they could be on the same page with regards to that. He still wasn't the best in certain situations and that was embarrassing too.

He did disappear into the bathroom to take a shower like he'd said. The water was on, the door was closed and he was in there, letting the cool water wash off the last vestiges of sleepiness.

Under slightly different circumstances, Kate would've probably gleefully invaded his personal space while he was in there. As it stood, however, she was feeling way too awkward and chose to just let this whole situation... wind down on its own. Or something.

So she headed out to the porch to clean up what remained of their breakfast.

Bod didn't stay in the shower too long. Just long enough to wash his hair and get himself smelling nice before stepping out of the shower and changing into clothes that weren't just his boxers.

Now, he didn't really know what to do. Idly, he wandered out the front door and stood there, arms crossed, letting the sun dry his hair and warm his skin again.

Maybe he was supposed to go fondle rocks? He really wasn't sure.

Kate wasn't sure either, anymore. Her brain was feeling a bit useless.

Having put all the breakfast stuff away in the kitchen, she wandered through the living room into one of the bedrooms and flopped down onto a bed. Maybe she'd take a nap or something.

Bod still wasn't really sure about Kate's state of mind in regards to him teasing about rocks. She hadn't seemed upset but then he'd gotten what he thought was a brush off (or what he understood as one) so he was going to let her be for a bit.

He ended up out back and in the hammock, eyes closed. No, he wasn't going to sleep but he could enjoy being outside while his thoughts wandered.

Kate wasn't going to sleep, either. But she was going to take a moment to pull a blanket over her head and maybe wallow in her frustration for a moment or two.

You know. Like a totally sensible person.

And Bod, honestly, had no idea. He wasn't sure what she'd wanted from him and after she hadn't come to the shower, he was now wondering if she'd actually gotten angry with him for the rocks remark.

He swung the hammock back and forth and sighed, wondering how long he had to stay away before she wasn't angry (she wasn't angry but he didn't know that).

Kate spent a while longer doing nothing productive and listening for sounds that might signal he'd have come back inside. When there were none, she managed to pry herself off the bed and heading outside, because this was stupid.

And Bod was still out in the hammock, swinging slowly in the wind and listening to the sounds around him. He couldn't hear her yet, of course, but he could hear the breeze and the birds and other quieter things.

It wasn't hard to spot him in the hammock. Kate made her way over slowly, walking barefoot in the grass and enjoying how that felt.

She had no idea what was going to happen next but hey, at least she was coming to him.

Bod wasn't really sure either but as she drew closer, he turned his head and opened his eyes to see her. He smiled, though, because it was good to see her and she didn't look angry with him at the moment.

No, she didn't. She even answered his smile with a little one of her own as she stopped right by the hammock.

"Hey."

[therewaslife]

"Hullo," he returned, still smiling. "How are you?"

[vanillajello]

"Feeling stupid," she replied, honestly, glancing down. "That's mostly it."

[therewaslife]

"You're not stupid," Bod assured her, shaking his head. "No one's stupid. Don't feel like that."

[vanillajello]

"Tell that to my brain," she replied, wryly. "It's less than convinced."

"Why does your brain feel stupid?" Bod asked quietly. "You didn't do anything wrong."

[vanillajello]

"My flirting fail made you take a shower by yourself," Kate pointed out. "I think there was a little bit of stupid there."

[therewaslife]

"I didn't know that was flirting," he said and felt embarrassed again. "I apologize."

"Don't," she replied, and huffed out a laugh. "That's where the fail part comes in, see?"

"Yes, but I should know by now," he said and felt his cheeks turning red. "I should know how to flirt with my girlfriend and I don't."
