Kansas City, MO, Still Whatever Day It Was The Last Time

Kate was still utterly, utterly excited about having handed in her flight attendant's application. And why shouldn't she have been? It had only been like fifteen minutes! The only change was that she was on the bus on her way home now.

And as she checked her phone, she found a voicemail from Jack, and a handful of messages from Bod. The former made her raise an eyebrow because bwuh, when had she been ignoring Jack's calls, and hadn't they talked like three days ago? As for the latter, she wondered he'd managed so many texts in such short a time, but didn't even read more than the first. This was a thing that needed to be talked about so she could properly squee about it.

So, deciding to call Jack a little later, she picked Bod's number. She was pretty sure he was at work (and she was right, albeit off by two weeks reagarding the date) but whatever, she was calling him right now anyway. How busy could Luke's be?

"We should," Bod agreed, nodding. "It's Friday, classes have finished, and there's nowhere else I want to be but with you. It's been awhile since I've seen our room so take me there, girlfriend."

Kate reached down for one of his bags of food, then reached for one one of his hands.

"Come on, then."

"I'm right behind you," he said, picking up the other bag of food and lacing his fingers with hers. "Lead one."

She tugged him along, not wasting too much time on the stairs.

And as soon as they were in their room, she stole a kiss, because she felt like it.

"Welcome back."

"It's very good to be back," Bod murmured against her lips. "If I have my wish, I won't be leaving this room for at least twenty four hours."

He'd go back for his shift at the library and then return to Kansas if she'd let him.

"I am absolutely fine with that," Kate assured him, and nipped at his lips a little just for further proof. It worked like proof in her mind, anyway, leave it alone. "You are very very welcome to stay."

"I think I might," he decided, nodding and smiling again. "I think it's necessary since it feels like it's been so long since I've last seen you."

Kate nodded, her nose brushing up against his. "Since you said goodbye to me for Japan." That had been a week ago for her. "It's a long time ago."

"It has been." He closed his eyes and sighed and breathed her in again. "I just need to be with you for a little while. It's what I need right now."

"I'm available for that," Kate murmured with a smile. "The flight attendant selection process doesn't even start 'til next week. I'm available for you to be with."

"Yes, tell me about that," Bod said, stepping back and trying to get out of his shoes as he did. "You're going to be a flight attendant? What brought that on?"

"Well, I told you about the lady who was all oh dear when she heard where I was going, right?" Kate checked, plopping hersel down on the edge of their bed and peering into the bag in her hands. Mm, food.

"She's just... super confident, and classy, and all that stuff, and she's a flight attendant, so... I dunno. Guess I got inspired."

"That's a good thing," Bod replied, padding over to sit beside her with the other bag of food. "And I know it hasn't been that long for you since you've submitted the application but what have you been feeling since then?"

[vanillajello]

"It's only been, like, hours," Kate snorted, pulling out food for herself. "But, you know, glee I guess? I mean, I'm pretty excited. I think this could work for me. I like flying."

[therewaslife]

"I know but typically your first impression or first feeling is the one that's right," Bod pointed out, shrugging. "Remember how you were feeling after getting some additional information about Japan? You're not feeling that right now."

"Duh." She thought that pretty obvious. "I'm just gonna see how this goes. But I have high hopes."

[therewaslife]

"I'm glad that you're feeling good about this," Bod said sincerely. "I know you've been looking for your path and maybe this is just the beginning of it. I'm really happy for you, Kate."

"Thanks." She was trying not to get ahead of herself this time around because there were only so many times your plans could crash and burn before it got embarrassing, but she had her hopes. "And you know, if they take me, I might one day actually have enough money to move off Oak Avenue. Wouldn't that be something?"

[therewaslife]

"Wherever you move to, you'd just better save space for me," he said, leaning over so he could kiss her cheek. "I'll find you anywhere. But, one day you will have the money and you will move. I know it."

[vanillajello]

"There will always be room for you," she murmured with a chuckle. "Wherever I am. I will make it so. Because you're my boyfriend and my beloved and all other old-fashioned words."

"Your beloved?" Bod asked, chuckling lightly at that word. "That's a strong description of me. Very nice. I like it quite a lot."

"How's that any stronger than 'I love you' and 'here, wear my ring'?" Kate questioned with a laugh, turning her head to lean closer and kiss his cheek. "Come on."

"I don't know," he murmured, closing his eyes and smiling. "I don't make sense sometimes so you should just take what I say and nod and agree."

"What?" Kate asked, laughing even as she nuzzled his cheek. "I wasn't aware I was supposed to start acting like a some kind of trophy girlfriend who doesn't expect you to make sense!"

"It's a new rule," he said, not even realizing that he'd started leaning into her when she started nuzzling his cheek. He'd been worried, he couldn't help it. "I've just made it up. It's the boyfriend rule."
