Somewhere in Maryland, Friday Evening

So, Kate and Bod had decided to get the hell off the island and away from the constant rain of future Japan. They'd packed some stuff, rented a car, and off they'd gone.

They were... somewhere in Maryland, now. Kate wasn't exactly sure where, and didn't particularly care, though maybe she should have, since she was currently driving and all. Maybe they'd know where they were going once they saw it.

She glanced over at Bod. "Can you try and find something good on the radio?" She was still too much of an old lady driver to start fiddling with the car stereo while they were in motion.

"It would be romantic," Bod corrected, smiling over at her. "Are you sure you'd like to let loose your romantic side, Kate?"

Kate gave him an amused glance. "You make it sound like its some great beast that needs to kept locked up in a cage."

"It's not?" Bod teased, gesturing for her to make the next right. "I always assumed it was."

"Thanks," she said, for the guidance not the comments. "Yes, my romantic side's totally a great big panther that'll swallow you whole if you're not careful."

"I'll be careful with that infrequently used romantic side," Bod said and pointed to the entrance up ahead. "There we are! See, it wasn't too hard to find at all. We're here."

"Whohoo!" Kate replied, in lieu of throwing up her hands with joy because hi, driving. "Now all we have to do is get this thing parked before setting off to conquer a spot of beach."

"I think we just check in at the main gate to pay for a camping site for the night and then we can park and walk," Bod advised. He fished his wallet out of his pocket and passed it to her. "You can use what's in there."

"So gentlemanly," Kate murmured softly, smiling as she took the wallet.

And sure enough, it worked out like he'd said. She paid at the gate, and it wasn't long at all before she was parking the car without any major drama or difficulty.

Bod climbed out of the car and circled back to the trunk, waiting for her to open it so he could get their bags and the tent before heading towards their campsite.

"It's nice and quiet out here."

Kate popped the trunk and gathered what few possessions she'd already managed to litter around herself, before climbing out of the car too. "Yeah well, it won't be for long now that I'm here."

"Are you planning on screaming and shouting?" Bod asked, reaching in to get his bag, her bag and the tent. "Or are you going to make other loud noises?"

"I was just referring to how I'm generally kind of loud," Kate replied, laughing, as she locked the car doors. "But I can totally think of a few specific sounds I might be making later."

"Such as?" Bod prompted, hefting their bags onto his shoulders and grabbing the tent before starting off towards the beach and their assigned site.

"Laughing," she teased, easily following along beside him. "But also moaning. Maybe screaming, but good screaming."

"You'd better hope that we don't have any nearby neighbors," Bod laughed, shaking his head. "They might wonder about all the noises they're hearing."

"Well, I can be quiet too, if need be," Kate replied with a smirk. "You know that."

"I do," he laughed. His smiled widened when asphalt turned to sand and he could hear the waves in front of them. "I've never camped on the beach before. It's gorgeous."

"It is," Kate agreed, sufficiently distracted from her mild innuendo. She even stopped for a moment to kick off her shoes and pick them up so she could walk barefoot in the sand instead. "So glad we decided to get off the island."

"I am too," Bod agreed, smiling over at her. "It was a very good idea. It's nice to feel the breeze from the ocean and not feel the rain hitting my head."

"Yeah," she sighed. "Also, it's good to have kind of a normal view again. The uber techno city gets a little depressing."

[therewaslife]

"It'll be an excellent spot to watch the sun set," Bod said, walking a few feet more before settling their things in the sand. "I think...we are here. Is this good? We're close enough to the water to hear the waves but far enough away to not wake up with waves nipping at our tent door."

"This is perfect," Kate assured him, then smiled all too sweetly at him. "Are you gonna pitch the tent now?"

"I am," he said and wondered if that smile was actually sweet or sweetly devious. "I was going to lay you out a blanket first so you could sit and relax but after that, I'll put the tent up."

Oh, her smile was almost never just plain sweet. She snickered. "If by 'sit and relax' you mean 'heckle and tease' then yeah, that sounds good."

"You're very opportunistic," Bod said but he did get a blanket out from his bag and spread it out on the sand for her before gesturing to it with a hand. "Your blanket await, dearest."
