Overland Park, KS, Friday Morning (September)

Six plus six was twelve, and twelve was the same as one, if you were talking about months first and then switched to years. The bottom line was, Kate and Bod had now been an item for a whole year in total. (There really was no need to talk about that four month gap between the first and second six month stretches. Because that was just a really fucking depressing topic all around.) And that was a huge fucking deal.

Enough of a huge fucking deal for it to be the first thing Kate become conscious of as she woke up this morning, all warm and tangled up with Bod, in their bed, in their room, just like they had been every night for the past week or so. That alone would've made her happy, but remembering the anniversary made her doubly so.

So, as much as it saddened her to do it, she tried slowly disentangling herself from her pale, pale boyfriend, so she'd be able to slip out of bed in her panda-print tunic. There was something she wanted to get from downstairs.

"Your aunt seems like the arguing type from what I've seen of her," Bod said, leaning forward because he just wanted to press his lips to her nice, soft neck there.

[And FYI, I must go to work again soonish. Sigh. I need a new life.]

"Yeah but it's not fun like it is with you," she sighed, softly. "She just ends up getting annoyed."

[Aw, I shall wish you strength.]

Bod laughed and pulled back a touch, shaking his head. "You argue with me because it's fun. I think some people might look at our relationship and wonder how we're functional."

But, they were functional in very good ways so Bod thought that deserved another press of his lips to her neck.

"Those people need to get their eyes off our relationship," Kate decided, idly stroking the back of his neck with her fingertips. "We function because you know me. You --" And she chose to whisper the rest by his ear. "-- understand me."

"I do understand you," he said, shivering at how her whisper made him feel. "And you understand me. And you're patient with me as well."

"And you're patient with me," she replied, still keeping her voice low. Intimate. "And all my pointless bullshit. You don't even know how amazing that is."

"I told you I love you and that includes your pointless...issues," he said, snickering at himself. "That's a part of you and I want it all."

Kate snickered at him too. "You also put up with my less than ladylike language and substitute your own."

"You're much better at utilizing less than ladylike language than I am," he pointed out. "I think you'd be shocked if I started using language like that regularly."

"I don't know," she mused, lightly nipping at his earlobe. It was another one of those things she just... felt like doing. "It could be hot. Or it'd just be weird. Hot and weird."

"Do...those even go together?" Bod wondered, shivering again. "Hot and weird sound like opposite emotions."

"No they don't," Kate argued, sounding amused. "Haven't I amply established that I find you both weird and very very hot?"

"And I think that's weird," Bod said, blushing lightly. "The hot part, at least."

[vanillajello]

"Yeah well, it's not you who's supposed to want to sleep with you," Kate pointed out and nipped at his ear again. "Because that would be narcissistic and weird in an off-putting way. But you're hot. Trust me. From your floppy hair right down to the scarred soles of your feet, you're hot."

[therewaslife]

"Thank you," he said and blushed harder, thankful that she wouldn't be able to see it even if she could probably feel it. "I don't see myself that way but I know I'm not one to tell you otherwise. It makes me feel...good."

"As it fucking should," she murmured, smiling unseen at how his skin felt a little warmer. "I see you that way. I see you."

[therewaslife]

"I know you do," he said, rubbing his cheek against hers and closing his eyes. "You see me. You're the only one who really does."

"Yeah well, everyone else is an idiot," she decided. "I know you used to Fade or whatever, but seriously, it's so obvious to me that you're worth really looking at."

"Are you attempting to make me blush a bright shade of red?" Bod wondered, amused. "You're succeeding."

"Well I get to reap the benefits of it so rarely these days," Kate replied, and rubbed her cheek against his blushing one, as if to demonstrate her point. "I miss it."

[therewaslife]

"Of all the things to miss about me, you pick my blushing?" he asked, laughing. "And you call me strange?"

[vanillajello]

"Hey, I didn't say it was the only thing," Kate protested with a chuckle. "Besides, you've always known I'm way too into your blushing."

[therewaslife]

"And that is strange!" Bod exclaimed, shaking his head. "It's very strange, Kate, dearest."

[vanillajello]

"Fuck you," she murmured, so very eloquently. "I'm allowed to be attracted to your blushing. It makes you look sweet. Sweeter than you are, in some cases."

[therewaslife]

"I'm very sweet," he said, shifting around so he could kiss her. "I'm very, very sweet. It's not nice to use bad language like that."

He didn't mind it at all.
