Room 324, Late Thursday Morning

"-- So then what? ...Oh, oh, like in that movie? You know. ...What do you mean, you don't? We watched it like three times in a row last spring when I had the-- Yes. That one. With the guy with the hair and the--"

Back in Overland Park, T was out, for some reason or other.

It meant that here in Fandom, Kate was sprawled on her bed with her phone clamped to her ear, getting updated on the stupid things morning television had to offer, and the things T would've liked to do later in the day if she wouldn't have been likely to be too lazy and too high to leave the house.

Kate was snickering a lot. "... Eww, T, that's disgusting."

There were worse ways to spend a morning.

Bod's classes for the week were over. That usually led him outside and, with the nicer weather, he was leaning even more towards that option. Of course, that wasn't going to stop him from a visit a few floors below his.

Most of the time, Kate seemed to come up to see him so going down to see her didn't seem like a bad thing to do. The door was half open but he was still going to knock lightly in case her allegedly flaily roommate was there.

"Come on in!" Kate called out after she heard the knock, not bothering to move much. Mostly because T spazzed out on the other end of the line. "... No, T, dude why would I tell you to come in? There's someone at my door."

Unless Kate's roommate had become a girl again (which would excuse any alleged flailiness), Bod guess Kate was home and slipped inside quietly. Of course, upon seeing he'd interrupted a phone conversation, he winced and looked a little embarrassed at not realizing.

He didn't apologize yet (because that would require talking over her) but he did wave while looking abashed.

"Hi," Kate grinned at him, giving him a wave back.

And then concentrated on T for a moment again, because-- "Oh come on, you can't possibly tell it's a guy by the way I said hi! ...No, you don't have any superpowers, and even if you did, that wouldn't be one of them. I gotta g-- T, shut up, I'll call you later if you're still around, okay? Okay. Bye."

She hung up, then shot Bod a smile. "Right. Hi."

"Hullo. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you end your phone call," he said, wincing again. "I could come back at a better time if you'd rather call your friend back."

"No, it's okay," she said, waving that off. "It was just T, and we'd been talking for like, 30 minutes already. Completely fine. Don't worry about it."

"I'll try not to," he said and leaned back against her door. "Is she a friend from home?"

"You could say that," she replied easily, tucking a hand behind her neck. "She's not around much, though."

"Well then, I'm glad you had a chance to speak with her," he said, nodding. "She has superpowers?"

Snort. "She has pot. Which makes her think she has superpowers. Apparently."

"Ah. I've...never experienced that particular thing." Amazing, considering the places he'd walked, stayed in and visited. Then again, he'd routinely kept himself quiet and out of sight, despite being safe.

"I guess thinking she has superpower is more optimistic than thinking she doesn't?" Bod tried before biting his lip. "Unless she tries to fly."

"Even if she did think she could fly, she'd never try it," Kate replied with a slight shake of her head. "T's pretty lazy. I'm sure she'd just make a video diary where she'd rant about how she could've flown to the Sugar Shack and back if she hadn't been too busy eating Doritos, or something."

"She sounds interesting," he remarked, nodding before finally pushing away from the door and padding closer. "And entertaining. But, I think you and she have laziness in common, at least."

Yeah, that was a joke. He could make them sometimes!

And that joke earned him an eyeroll. A rather good-natured one, though.

"Well I guess we have to have something in common," she replied, shifting so that she was only taking up one side of her bed. No particular reason. "She's pretty fun to hang out with, though."

Bod could understand that movement even if it was made for no particular reason. He settled on the vacated side of the bed for no particular reason as well.

"Do you think you have superpowers when you hang out?" Bod wondered, glancing over at her.

"I tend to have a few credit cards at my disposal when we do," she smirked at him. "That's like... a minor superpower, where I'm from."

"Oh? What sorts of things do you buy with this disposal of credit cards that you have?" he wondered.

[vanillajello]

"Clothes, accessories, cds, cigarettes... Just, you know, stuff."

She pursed her lips and glanced away before adding, "Usually end up returning most of it, though. But it's fun while it lasts."

That...was a little unusual. "You returned things you bought? Why would you purchase them in the first place if you weren't going to keep them?"

Kate shrugged a shoulder and glanced back at him, then looked at the ceiling. "Because there's always a chance I might get to keep some of it."

"Were the credit cards not yours?" he asked since that was the only way he could see her not getting to keep things she'd purchased in the first place.

"No," she said, simply. "Mom's."

[therewaslife]

"Ah. So, when she found out, she wasn't happy?" Again, it was another guess but the context was telling.

"Not very happy, no. But T got most the blame. She usually does."

... Not at all because Kate pushed the blame on her, no.

"Well, I suppose that's better than you getting all the blame," he reasoned, nodding. "I don't think I have any superpowers. It's saddening."
