Room 324, Late Thursday Morning

"-- So then what? ...Oh, oh, like in that movie? You know. ...What do you mean, you don't? We watched it like three times in a row last spring when I had the-- Yes. That one. With the guy with the hair and the--"

Back in Overland Park, T was out, for some reason or other.

It meant that here in Fandom, Kate was sprawled on her bed with her phone clamped to her ear, getting updated on the stupid things morning television had to offer, and the things T would've liked to do later in the day if she wouldn't have been likely to be too lazy and too high to leave the house.

Kate was snickering a lot. "... Eww, T, that's disgusting."

There were worse ways to spend a morning.

"For someone who's never had them, they're not that overrated," said Bod, shrugging. "Depending on the superpower, I think it'd be interesting."

"Interesting, yeah. Fun? Not necessarily," she replied. "And I'm all about the fun."

[therewaslife]

"Well, you'd have to make an effort to make it fun," he decided. "I don't think having a superpower would automatically makes things fun. You'd have to help it along."

"It's just that from what I've seen, superpowers seem to come with a lot of bad stuff attached," she shrugged. "I can make things fun without having any."

"You don't have to have superpowers to be dealing with bad things though," Bod pointed out, shrugging one shoulder. "I think the bad will find you no matter what."

"I know that." She did. "But they're different kinds of bad things."

[therewaslife]

"Different doesn't make them any easier," he replied lightly. "It just makes them different. Still bad."

[vanillajello]

"Didn't say they were easier. But, whatever. Can we talk about something good instead?"

This topic wasn't making her particularly uncomfortable, but to actually explain her point would have meant talking about other people's secrets and yeah. That wasn't going to happen.

"...all right," Bod said after a thoughtful pause. "What would you like to talk about?"

"Puppies and rainbows and cupcakes." Beat. "I have no idea."

[therewaslife]

"I'm not sure either," Bod said, shrugging and scrubbing a hand through his hair. "I didn't necessarily come with a list of good things to discuss."

"Hmm."

Kate looked at the ceiling for a moment.

"Oh. Have I told you I'm in the play at the theater in town?"

"I didn't even know there was a theatre in town," he admitted. "I haven't explored that thoroughly yet. What sort of play?"

"Shakespeare. Richard III, this time around," she told him. "So, a history. About a kind of an evil guy."

[therewaslife]

"Do you enjoy it?" Bod asked curiously. "I assume you would because you're participating but I asked anyway."

[vanillajello]

"Yeah, I enjoy it," she nodded with a smile that said as much, too. "It's pretty awesome, really. And I have a bigger part this time."

"Perhaps I'll come see one of the performances," Bod remarked, nodding. "I've never been to the theatre. Not an actual theatre, I should say."

"You should totally come see us. We're great," Kate said, grinning.

"I'm not much of a theater-goer, myself, either. Movies are more my thing."

[therewaslife]

"And not modest at all," he teased, nudging her with his elbow. "I'll come see a performance, I promise. As for movies, I've only recently seen my first. They're...entertaining."

"No place for modesty here. I'd rather just speak the truth," she smirked. "And you've already picked up on the most important thing about movies. My brother would disagree with me about that, but he's a geek."

"Your brother doesn't believe that movies are supposed to be entertaining?" Bod asked.

[vanillajello]

"It's not exactly like that, but he's definitely more into the art side of it all," Kate explained. "Especially old movies in black and white."

[therewaslife]

"And you're more into just being entertained for a few hours?" Bod guessed.

[vanillajello]

"Not exactly like that, either, but yeah. Pretty much," she replied with an amused smile. "I mean, I can be entertained by movies I almost actively dislike."

"Perhaps that just means you're easily entertained," he teased. "That it doesn't take much to make your day enjoyable."
