Room 324, Friday Evening

After everything that had happened over the last week, and what little had happened today, Kate was just so very glad to have a completely unrelated thing to focus on.

And right now, that thing was the thought of getting a new fake little sibling tomorrow. So, she'd been putting together a little welcome kit with some useful items. It felt a little dorky, but it was pretty fun, actually, doing that. And distracting, which was the important thing.

She'd even considered baking a batch of cookies, but then decided against it both because there'd be enough food at the welcome picnic, and she wasn't really feeling the idea of standing in the common room baking right now. She'd just offer to bake the kid something at a later date.

So now, Kate was just sprawled on her bed, making a refresher list of all the things a newbie to fair Fandom island should be told on their first day.

And she was eating chocolate. Chocolate was a good thing.

Showing some predictability of her own, Kate rolled her eyes. "No thanks, you two can do it for me," she said, folding the map away again.

Bod laughed a bit and brought the box a little closer to peer through it some more. "I think the map is a good idea. Not everyone's going to want to wander around like I did."

Among the stuff Kate had gathered were a packet of bandaids (half Hola Gato, half plain), written instructions for downloading the radio podcast, a small bag of candy from Wonka's, and a disposable camera.

"Yeah, some of us are actually going somewhere specific," Kate remarked, reaching for her laptop again. "Hey, I'm compiling a short list of what to expect from different teachers here, since a lot of them are kinda... weird. Anything you'd like to note about anyone in particular?"

"Hmm." Bod was quiet for a few moments while he thought about that. He idly read some of her instructions on the radio podcast before saying, "Professor Skywalker is very, very intimidating?"

Bod remembered almost every word of Ethics class but he more remembered how intense Professor Skywalker had been.

"I didn't know that, I've never been in his class," she said, typing that up. "And it's good to know. I've already got stuff here about Deadpool, Captain Sparrow, Mitchell, and Loki, and a lot of those aren't even gonna be teaching anything this term."

Including Mitchell, which was something she was going to have to ask about, eventually.

"He's an excellent teacher, he's just very intense," Bod said with a little laugh. "I had Professor Aquaman once before. I don't know what there is to say about him other than he's very...boisterous."

[GOOD TIMING CUZ I GOTTA CRASH TOO!]

"Yeah, I was in his class this term," Kate said, "but I think he said he was leaving for good, so I'm not including him."

"Oh, too bad, he was enjoyable if a little eccentric," said the very eccentric boy. Maybe that was why he liked Professor Aquaman. "All of my other professors have been fairly normal, I think. Professor Cabot was pretty."

Kate let out a surprised, if totally amused laugh at that. "Okay..."

She was going to put that in. Of course she was.

"What?" Bod asked after she'd laughed. "Is that not a good observation?"

"No, it's fine, just a little surprising," she replied, still snickering a bit. "And, also, probably not terribly helpful for a new kid."

"Surprising?" he asked, looking curious about that. "Why?"

"Because I don't remember you ever freely admitting to thinking anyone's pretty before," she explained easily.

"Well, except for me, obviously."

"Obviously." She was just the one that heard it all the time because he thought it all the time. "I...think that about other people. I just don't vocalize it as much. You are pretty."

"Oh relax, I'm not jealous," she smirked, somehow managing to look a little smug. "But you can still keep telling me that."

"I didn't think you were," he said and laughed again. "I just wanted to tell you that because it's true. You are pretty. You're beautiful."

"I know." Today, she'd be content to accept that and be smug. "Even though I'm a little tired and a little... Well, I don't actually feel hung over anymore, but still. I look awesome."

"You do look very nice," he said but another part of her statement had caught his attention. "Hungover?"

"Oh, I went to Caritas last night," she said, almost idly. "Got a vodka tonic and a hangover."

She'd kind of asked for the hangover more than for the vodka tonic, but she wasn't going to mention that.

"I didn't think you were that big a drinker," he said, tilting his head. "Are you feeling all right now?"

"I'm not a big drinker, I just drink occasionally." While emotionally unbalanced. "I'm fine."

For some strange reason, Bod didn't exactly believe that. Maybe because he knew here a little better than to believe she was all the way fine.

"You're fine?" he asked, looking concerned now. "Are you?"

"Well, my head doesn't hurt, and I'm not feeling any kind of desire to puke on you," she said, shrugging a shoulder. "So, y'know. Hangoverwise, I'm good."

"And otherwise?" Bod asked, unable to miss how she'd worded that. "Besides the hangover, you're not all right?"

Kate looked down, pursing her lips, and shrugged.

It was a reluctant yes, maybe.
