Overland Park, KS, Friday Morning (September)

Six plus six was twelve, and twelve was the same as one, if you were talking about months first and then switched to years. The bottom line was, Kate and Bod had now been an item for a whole year in total. (There really was no need to talk about that four month gap between the first and second six month stretches. Because that was just a really fucking depressing topic all around.) And that was a huge fucking deal.

Enough of a huge fucking deal for it to be the first thing Kate become conscious of as she woke up this morning, all warm and tangled up with Bod, in their bed, in their room, just like they had been every night for the past week or so. That alone would've made her happy, but remembering the anniversary made her doubly so.

So, as much as it saddened her to do it, she tried slowly disentangling herself from her pale, pale boyfriend, so she'd be able to slip out of bed in her panda-print tunic. There was something she wanted to get from downstairs.

"Mmhmm." She leaned in and nuzzled his cheek a bit. Since it was all there and stuff, and she was easy. "That's good. That's very very good."

"I'm glad to hear you like it," he sighed, holding her tighter. "I like thinking about it as well. I like knowing my future has you in it."

"Well it would suck if it didn't," she quipped, before briefly pressing her lips against his cheek. "I'm the most amazing person you know. And you're the most amazing person I know."

"Coming from someone like yourself, that's quite the compliment," Bod said, sighing again. "Thank you for thinking me so amazing."

"It's easy," she murmured. "You make it so totally easy to think that. This week's been amazing too."

[therewaslife]

"It has been," he agreed and tightened his grip on her. "There was no easier choice to be made than choosing between you and a trip. You would win every single time."

"Well, from what I hear it was construction work in Canada," she snickered, burying her face in the crook of his neck, enjoying the warmth of his body all around her. "So it doesn't seem like it was a difficult win for me. But I get what you're saying."

"It could have been anywhere and I would have chosen Kansas and you," Bod reiterated even if she understood. "There's absolutely no contest."

"You're just trying to get into my good graces," Kate teased. She didn't think that at all, and it was probably obvious. "Flatterer."

[therewaslife]

"I'm not already in your good graces?" Bod asked, laughing. "When did that happen?"

[vanillajello]

"Well, no, you are," Kate mused, trying to figure out how to spin this particular bit of ridiculousness. "But you're... trying to get into my even better graces?"

She ended up laughing against his neck.

"You didn't think that statement through," Bod laughed, shaking his head. "And that bit of fumbling is proof."

"Fine, fine," she sighed, pressing the words into his skin. "You found me out. I didn't think that through and then I fumbled. I'm a fumbler. But you love me."

[therewaslife]

"I love you," he said, wondering if she just wanted to hear him say that. "I love you despite your fumbling. I love you because of your fumbling."

Of course she just wanted to hear him say that. Sometimes all she wanted were the simple things. "What? I don't want to be loved for my fumbling! I want to be loved because I'm full of grace and stuff."

"That's just too bad, Kate," Bod said, laughing. "I love you and your grace and I love you and your fumbling as well. That's just the way it is, girlfriend."

At that one particular word, Kate clung to him a bit more. "Okay, boyfriend," she murmured. "I love you and your fumbling too. That, and many other things."

[therewaslife]

"Many, many other things," Bod agreed, leaning forward to give her a quick kiss. "I find new things everyday to love you for."

"You don't even see me every day," she argued, just for the sake of objecting. She gave him a kiss back. "How does that even work?"

"Just because I don't see you doesn't mean you're not in my thoughts everyday," Bod said, glancing down at his ring. "I think of you and I remember things I love."

"But that's remembering, not finding," Kate replied, following his gaze and smiling. "Or do you find new stuff in your memories?"

She did, actually.

"Are you arguing with me about me finding new ways to love?" Bod asked, shaking his head and laughing. "Yes, I remember new things. I think of situations in new ways."

"I'm not arguing, I promise," Kate snickered. "I do that too. Not everything is about arguing."

[therewaslife]

"I know it isn't but I also know you just love arguing," Bod pointed out, tapping his fingers against her back. "It's a hobby of yours."

"Mm, and one I don't get to do nearly enough these days," she complained lightly. "People don't indulge me like you do."
