Room 324, Friday Evening

After everything that had happened over the last week, and what little had happened today, Kate was just so very glad to have a completely unrelated thing to focus on.

And right now, that thing was the thought of getting a new fake little sibling tomorrow. So, she'd been putting together a little welcome kit with some useful items. It felt a little dorky, but it was pretty fun, actually, doing that. And distracting, which was the important thing.

She'd even considered baking a batch of cookies, but then decided against it both because there'd be enough food at the welcome picnic, and she wasn't really feeling the idea of standing in the common room baking right now. She'd just offer to bake the kid something at a later date.

So now, Kate was just sprawled on her bed, making a refresher list of all the things a newbie to fair Fandom island should be told on their first day.

And she was eating chocolate. Chocolate was a good thing.

"Because you're too dumb to figure out self-explanatory things?" she snarked, but pushed her laptop's screen down so she could push it aside and pull the basket in front of her, anyway.

She picked up the first item. "A map of Fandom. That's something I wish I would've had."

"No, but I thought you'd like to showcase your little package," he replied with a little smile. "I didn't mind not having a map when I arrived. I liked exploring and if I got lost, I just made a note of it."

"Well, my fake sis wanted me to meet her at Caritas like my sesond day here, and I barely found my way there," she replied. "So I thought it'd be useful. And..." She spread the map out in front of them. "I took the liberty of circling some important places."

The Perk, Caritas, Turtle & Canary, and a few others were indeed neatly circled in red on the map.

"Now, that I do find helpful," he said, skimming his fingers across the map carefully. "I don't think I've been in half of these places yet. I don't even know what some of them are."

"Me too, and I've been here for over a year now," she said, tapping her fingers against the map. "Like this whole western bit of the island? Barely ever even been there, apart from the restaurant district."

"You've found places you like that aren't over there," he said, glancing at the part of the map anyway. "You're a person who likes her routines, perhaps?"

Kate snorted. "No, I'm a lazy person who doesn't want to walk that far for no reason. I mean, Mitchell lives over there." She pointed at 71 Serendipity. "But even he's not there most of the time, so I really have no reason to go there."

"I always forget that he lives in town," replied Bod, glancing down at where she was pointing. "I've only ever seen him in classes and in the graveyard."

"Well, he's mostly in Bristol, nowadays, and when he's here he doesn't really get out much," she said. "Wait, you've seen him in the graveyard?"

And this was Kate's 'wow, Mitchell, way to be a walking cliche' face. She'd explain it away if needed.

"Yes. I was there, just walking through it, reading the gravestones and he was there," he replied with a nod. "We had an interesting conversation, even."

"Was it philosophical?"

She'd bet it was.

"It...might have been," he said, blushing a bit at how easily she'd picked that out. "Slightly."

Please, Kate knew both of them way too well to miss something like that. Add the graveyard setting and it was just unavoidable.

She smirked. "It was a lot philosophical, wasn't it?""

"...maybe." He blushed a little more. "There's nothing wrong with philosophical conversation!"

"I didn't say there was anything wrong with it," she pointed out, smiling, at catching some defensiveness there. "Just that you two are so fucking predictable."

"How are we predictable?" wondered Bod. "Our conversations make us predictable?"

"It's predictable that when you two run into each other in a graveyard, some philosophizing is bound to happen," she nodded. "Yes. Not that you're predictable in general."

"If you'd like to discuss philosophy with me, we can," he teased, knowing full well that she'd start rolling her eyes and wishing that she was anywhere else.

Showing some predictability of her own, Kate rolled her eyes. "No thanks, you two can do it for me," she said, folding the map away again.

Bod laughed a bit and brought the box a little closer to peer through it some more. "I think the map is a good idea. Not everyone's going to want to wander around like I did."

Among the stuff Kate had gathered were a packet of bandaids (half Hola Gato, half plain), written instructions for downloading the radio podcast, a small bag of candy from Wonka's, and a disposable camera.

"Yeah, some of us are actually going somewhere specific," Kate remarked, reaching for her laptop again. "Hey, I'm compiling a short list of what to expect from different teachers here, since a lot of them are kinda... weird. Anything you'd like to note about anyone in particular?"

"Hmm." Bod was quiet for a few moments while he thought about that. He idly read some of her instructions on the radio podcast before saying, "Professor Skywalker is very, very intimidating?"

Bod remembered almost every word of Ethics class but he more remembered how intense Professor Skywalker had been.

"I didn't know that, I've never been in his class," she said, typing that up. "And it's good to know. I've already got stuff here about Deadpool, Captain Sparrow, Mitchell, and Loki, and a lot of those aren't even gonna be teaching anything this term."

Including Mitchell, which was something she was going to have to ask about, eventually.

"He's an excellent teacher, he's just very intense," Bod said with a little laugh. "I had Professor Aquaman once before. I don't know what there is to say about him other than he's very...boisterous."

[GOOD TIMING CUZ I GOTTA CRASH TOO!]

"Yeah, I was in his class this term," Kate said, "but I think he said he was leaving for good, so I'm not including him."
