Somewhere in Maryland, Friday Evening

So, Kate and Bod had decided to get the hell off the island and away from the constant rain of future Japan. They'd packed some stuff, rented a car, and off they'd gone.

They were... somewhere in Maryland, now. Kate wasn't exactly sure where, and didn't particularly care, though maybe she should have, since she was currently driving and all. Maybe they'd know where they were going once they saw it.

She glanced over at Bod. "Can you try and find something good on the radio?" She was still too much of an old lady driver to start fiddling with the car stereo while they were in motion.

"I... think I do?"

She did. But pfft, it wasn't like she'd ever needed to know where she was. You know, apart from figuring out where the island was at a given time.

"And now we're going to rely on me to find it," Bod said, laughing at the thought of that. "If I break your phone, I'm sorry."

He started looking through the functions to find something that looked like the GPS program.

"If you manage to break it like that, I'll just be impressed," Kate replied. "'Cause I haven't been kind to that phone, and it's fine."

"Well, you know me," he said and smiled adorably at her. "Besides, I think I did find your GPS program and it looks like we're in central Maryland. There are a few state parks around that offer camping."

"Well, dear map reader or GPS person or whatever you are," Kate replied with a quick smile thrown his way, "can you direct me to one of them?"

"If we go a little further north, we can camp on the beach at a place called Assateague Island National Park," Bod suggested. "It might not be too hot there and the scenery looks impressive."

"On the beach?" Well, color her intrigued. "That sounds pretty awesome, I can totally go with that. Especially since I packed my new bikini..."

Because she'd been wanting to show that off, with or without a large body of water nearby.

"You have a new bikini?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "Oooh. We'll just need to drive a little further north to get there. Not too long."

"Oooh indeed," she replied, smirking though she didn't look at him. "Ariel made it for me."

"I'll feel so under dressed in my not new bathing suit," Bod said, sighing. "I hope you'll be able to forgive me."

She laughed, quietly. "Oh, Bod, once you see me in mine, I don't think either of us will care about yours."

"You make it sound like I just might forget to put mine on," Bod said, reaching over to run a light finger down her cheek.

Kate tried not to shiver too obviously. "Well, would that be so bad?"

"It wouldn't but wouldn't that be halfway to skinny dipping?" Bod asked, pulling his finger back.

She glanced over with a smirk. "And, is there something wrong with that?"

[therewaslife]

"There's not but wouldn't it be more fun if we were both skinny dipping?" Bod asked.

"Well, I think we can discuss that further once we get there and you've seen my bikini," she teased. "Don't you?"

[therewaslife]

"Of course," he said and blushed the tiniest bit. "Though, now I'm almost tempted to ask you to pull over so I can see it now but waiting will be better."

"We're not far, right?" Kate asked, snickering. "I'm sure you can wait that long just fine. I wouldn't pull over just for that."

[therewaslife]

"We're not far," he confirmed. "Perhaps another half hour or so. And then we'll camp on the beach and I'll pitch the tent and make a fire and you can model your new swimsuit."

"And I'll make inappropriate jokes about you pitching a tent," Kate supplied with a snicker. "I'm sure that'll be helpful."

[therewaslife]

"What sort of jokes could come from pitching a tent?" Bod wondered. "There's nothing inappropriate about that."

[vanillajello]

"Oh my God!" Kate exclaimed, laughing. "I can't believe I keep forgetting how amazingly non-dirty your mind is." She shook her head. "Okay. Like, when you're in your boxers and you get a boner, and it starts, y'know, tenting the fabric?"

"That's what you think about when I'm pitching a tent?" Bod asked and that previously light blush deepened. "...how am I supposed to put up our tent now without thinking that?"

"Is the thought going to distract you so badly you won't be able to use your hands?" Kate wondered. "If not, I think you'll do just fine."
