Hawi, Hawaii, Thursday Morning

While Fandom sunk deeper into madness, strange things were afoot on another island too. Kate had snuck out of bed a bit earlier than necessary, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

... It was strange if you knew her.

She had the radio on at low volume, and was dancing around a bit in her well-worn Hola Gato pajamas as she made pancakes to be served with syrup. There was already some crispy bacon waiting on the counter, and an assortment of fruit. And Donkey Balls, because there was nothing like making your boyfriend blush over suggestively named confectionaries at breakfast. Especially after you'd already tormented him with them at the store the day before.

Kate was evil. But she was also making breakfast, so she supposed that evened itself out.

"Aww, thank you." See, Kate totally took that as a compliment. "But y'know, there's a fucked up alternate future out there where I was married for like four years. You really think I wasn't a good little housewife then?"

Probably not.

"Probably not," Bod said, shaking his head. "I think you were a perfectly fine wife but in your own way. You're not one to conform to labels and the like. You do your own thing."

"Yeah, I think I just spent my time flitting about Marseilles while he did the business thing," Kate admitted with a laugh, cutting into her pancakes. "I'll never be Alice."

"I think Alice should only be Alice," Bod said, popping some bacon into his mouth. "You should be Kate. You're perfect as Kate and your mum can handle Alice."

For the most part.

"I want you to just be Kate."

"Aww." She reached over to stroke his arm a few times, just because. "Thank you. I think I can manage that, most of the time."

"If you can't manage it sometimes, just let me know and we'll just hide in a room and let the world go on around us," he said, covering her hand with his. "Until you feel more balanced, that is."

Kate sighed, and smiled. "You know, I know I kinda wonder about this a lot," she said, "but sometimes I can't figure out how I landed you of all people."

"Good luck and good timing?" Bod suggested playfully. ""Does there really have to be a reason on why you ended up with me? Sometimes good things just happen."

"Well, they don't generally just happen to me," Kate pointed out. "Not, like, boy-wise and stuff."

[therewaslife]

"This time it did," Bod replied, shrugging. "Really, I think you're the reason you ended up with me. You decided to let me in and you decided to let me stay."

"Technically," she replied, leaning back again, "I decided to let you in, let you stay, give you up, come to my senses, then try and get you back in again. Though I guess you never really left."

"It wasn't very hard to get me back in again, was it?" Bod asked. considering he'd wanted back in just as badly, he didn't think it had been.

"No, it wasn't," she agreed, picking up some bacon. "Took like... what? Two weeks? You are easy."

[therewaslife]

"I wanted you back," Bod corrected, shrugging. "You were just lucky I waited two weeks to make an attempt."

"How's that lucky?" Kate wondered, smirking at him over her piece of bacon. "Hmm?"

[therewaslife]

"Well, I didn't want to rush you after everything," Bod replied, blushing and trying to hide it by looking down at his plate. "I wanted you back but I didn't want to...force it."

[vanillajello]

"I don't think I would've minded," she said, and snickered a bit. "Are you blushing? What's there to blush over about that?"

[therewaslife]

"At how eager and hopeful I was," Bod said and laughed. "It could have backfired if you'd decided you wanted to be alone for awhile."

[vanillajello]

"Well, I didn't." Obviously. "I wanted you back so I could stop jealousing over you. Or at least stop having to pretend I wasn't jealous."

[therewaslife]

Bod smiled lightly. "We made it back together eventually. That's what counts."

[vanillajello]

"Yeah, I guess it does, doesn't it?" She smiled and reached for some fruit. "Almost four months now."

[therewaslife]

"It hasn't seemed like that long at all," he said, boggling at that. "So, combined, we're almost at ten months. Almost an entire year."

[vanillajello]

"Pretty much, yeah," Kate agreed. "Two more months and we can claim a year, in total. Kinda crazy, right?"

[therewaslife]

"Crazy in a good way," Bod replied, nodding. "We'll get to a year and then we'll go beyond that. And it will continue to be crazy."

"That much I'm sure of," Kate replied wryly. "The crazy, I mean. There's just no other way."
