Overland Park, KS, Friday Morning (September)

Six plus six was twelve, and twelve was the same as one, if you were talking about months first and then switched to years. The bottom line was, Kate and Bod had now been an item for a whole year in total. (There really was no need to talk about that four month gap between the first and second six month stretches. Because that was just a really fucking depressing topic all around.) And that was a huge fucking deal.

Enough of a huge fucking deal for it to be the first thing Kate become conscious of as she woke up this morning, all warm and tangled up with Bod, in their bed, in their room, just like they had been every night for the past week or so. That alone would've made her happy, but remembering the anniversary made her doubly so.

So, as much as it saddened her to do it, she tried slowly disentangling herself from her pale, pale boyfriend, so she'd be able to slip out of bed in her panda-print tunic. There was something she wanted to get from downstairs.

"I know," Kate sighed, closing her eyes and leaning a little closer to him. Touch-starved. Yes, even after a week of constant company. "I do."

"Since this is my first trip to a new planet," Bod said, keeping his hand pressed where it was and stroking his thumb along her cheek, "I guess this means you've taken yet another first of mine."

"Technically, that might be Leto's honor," Kate noted, jokingly. "But it sounds better if it's mine so yes. It totally means that."

"It's Leto's planet but it's your friendship with him that allows me to go," he said, smiling. "I'm almost certain that you've taken all of my most notable firsts. Congratulations."

Kate snickered and opened her eyes to smile at him. "Thanks," she said. "It's been fun taking your firsts. Some more than others..."

"Has it?" Bod asked, rubbing his thumb under her eye before he dropped his hand. "Which have been your favorite to take, if I can ask? You can't say some more than others without expecting me to ask."

"You could've also asked which I've liked less than others," Kate teased, reaching to take the tray from him because she had plans. "Being the first girl you ever dumped would've been first on that list."

Bod let the tray go easily and leaned back on one of his hands. "I don't like to think about that particular moment in time so that list will never be brought up if I can help it."

Kate got up in one smooth movement, to go and put the tray on the desk. "I like to keep it in mind," she shared, idly. "So I don't screw up again."

"No one's going to make a mess of things," Bod promised, letting his eyes follow her. "I'm not worried."

"I'm not, either," she replied as she came back to the bed, stopping in front of him. "I mean, if I was superstitious, now's about the time I would start worrying 'cause we did this six-month thing once before. But I'm not worried."

"Good," he said, still watching her and trying to figure out what she might be planning. "We've done six months twice. This time, we're going to go past that and see what the other anniversaries are like."

Kate's plans were simple and unoriginal, really. Like trying to climb onto his lap for maximum closeness.

"Mm," she murmured. "Like... Seven months, and eight, and ten?"

And when Bod figured out what she was doing, he opened his arms up and gathered her closer to him while she got onto his lap.

"Seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve," he counted, nodding. "All of them."

Kate settled on his lap, happily sliding her arms around his neck, and smiling at him. "Twelve's a year," she remarked, oh so observantly. "That's a really long time."

"It is," Bod said, nodding at her. "It's a very long time but I want to do it anyway. By the time our year anniversary comes around, I'll be graduated from high school and out on my own somewhere."

Kate snorted. "Wishful thinking, dude," she replied. "Unless you're intending to be graduated and 'out on your own' by April fourteenth, 'cause that's when the year's gonna be up for us."

"I...am very bad at math," Bod said, embarrassed. "All right, by our year anniversary, I will be almost graduated and planning for my eventual time out on my own."

"You sound like you're just going to end up in some random place," Kate commented, still gently amused by his lack of math skills. (Like she hadn't gotten confused about things like that, especially with the time lag between Fandom and Kansas.) She ruffled the hair at the back of his neck. "Are you just gonna go to some random corner of the multiverse?"

"I don't know," he said honestly. "I haven't really thought about what I might do. I'd love to travel some but I know I can't do that forever."

"Mm." Kate supposed she had feelings about that, but she'd sort those out later. "Well, that's all still a pretty long way away. We're six months short of a year and everything."

"We are," he agreed, nodding. "Whatever I do in the future, you're going to figure into my plans. I'm sure of that."

"Mmhmm." She leaned in and nuzzled his cheek a bit. Since it was all there and stuff, and she was easy. "That's good. That's very very good."

"I'm glad to hear you like it," he sighed, holding her tighter. "I like thinking about it as well. I like knowing my future has you in it."

"Well it would suck if it didn't," she quipped, before briefly pressing her lips against his cheek. "I'm the most amazing person you know. And you're the most amazing person I know."
