Somewhere in Maryland, Friday Evening

So, Kate and Bod had decided to get the hell off the island and away from the constant rain of future Japan. They'd packed some stuff, rented a car, and off they'd gone.

They were... somewhere in Maryland, now. Kate wasn't exactly sure where, and didn't particularly care, though maybe she should have, since she was currently driving and all. Maybe they'd know where they were going once they saw it.

She glanced over at Bod. "Can you try and find something good on the radio?" She was still too much of an old lady driver to start fiddling with the car stereo while they were in motion.

"Oh, my poor girlfriend," Bod said, smiling over at her. "If I didn't think it'd distract you, I'd run my fingers through your hair."

Kate shook her head, amused. "Well, do tell me if the urge gets too strong, and I'll pull over."

"I think I can hold out." Well, he thought he could hold out in the movie theater and...that had not been the case. "I can just gaze lovingly at you."

"And you think that won't be distracting?" she wondered with a laugh. "You making googly eyes at me?"

"I could turn my attention to the passing landscapes, if you'd like?" Bod offered, gesturing to the passing scenery.

"Only if you're intending to spot somewhere for us to stop so we don't just drive all through the night," Kate decided. "Come on, as if I'd want to give up all your attention?"

"Do we have a map?" Bod asked, turning his attention back to her. "Or can I use your mobile phone? It has more capabilities than mine."

"My phone's in my bag," she said, taking one hand briefly off the steering wheel to gesture backwards, "in the back seat. No map, though."

"The phone will be fine," Bod said, twisting around to grab her bag. He fished the phone out and kept her bag on his lap. "Did we want to find a hotel or a camping ground or do you have relatives around here?"

"All my relatives are safely tucked away in Kansas," Kate assured him, since she preferred it that way. "I don't know, what do you wanna do? A hotel is comfy but camping can be intimate and fun too."

"I brought the tent along just in case," Bod added, nodding. "But, you know I don't mind what we do. I just wanted to have a night away with you."

"You are too easy," Kate chided, lightly. It wasn't like she minded. "Okay, so can you check if there are any camping grounds near... wherever it is that we are?"

"Do you have a GPS on your phone?" Bod asked, glancing over at her. "If I can get coordinates, I can figure out the answer to your question."

"I... think I do?"

She did. But pfft, it wasn't like she'd ever needed to know where she was. You know, apart from figuring out where the island was at a given time.

"And now we're going to rely on me to find it," Bod said, laughing at the thought of that. "If I break your phone, I'm sorry."

He started looking through the functions to find something that looked like the GPS program.

"If you manage to break it like that, I'll just be impressed," Kate replied. "'Cause I haven't been kind to that phone, and it's fine."

"Well, you know me," he said and smiled adorably at her. "Besides, I think I did find your GPS program and it looks like we're in central Maryland. There are a few state parks around that offer camping."

"Well, dear map reader or GPS person or whatever you are," Kate replied with a quick smile thrown his way, "can you direct me to one of them?"

"If we go a little further north, we can camp on the beach at a place called Assateague Island National Park," Bod suggested. "It might not be too hot there and the scenery looks impressive."

[vanillajello]

"On the beach?" Well, color her intrigued. "That sounds pretty awesome, I can totally go with that. Especially since I packed my new bikini..."

Because she'd been wanting to show that off, with or without a large body of water nearby.

"You have a new bikini?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "Oooh. We'll just need to drive a little further north to get there. Not too long."

"Oooh indeed," she replied, smirking though she didn't look at him. "Ariel made it for me."

[therewaslife]

"I'll feel so under dressed in my not new bathing suit," Bod said, sighing. "I hope you'll be able to forgive me."

She laughed, quietly. "Oh, Bod, once you see me in mine, I don't think either of us will care about yours."

[therewaslife]

"You make it sound like I just might forget to put mine on," Bod said, reaching over to run a light finger down her cheek.
