Hawi, Hawaii, Thursday Morning

While Fandom sunk deeper into madness, strange things were afoot on another island too. Kate had snuck out of bed a bit earlier than necessary, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

... It was strange if you knew her.

She had the radio on at low volume, and was dancing around a bit in her well-worn Hola Gato pajamas as she made pancakes to be served with syrup. There was already some crispy bacon waiting on the counter, and an assortment of fruit. And Donkey Balls, because there was nothing like making your boyfriend blush over suggestively named confectionaries at breakfast. Especially after you'd already tormented him with them at the store the day before.

Kate was evil. But she was also making breakfast, so she supposed that evened itself out.

"I had to put on pants," Bod said, laughing at her. "You've shorts on!"

"So did you!" she exclaimed, suppressing a snicker at being caught. "Boxers are a kind of shorts!"

"Boxers are my underwear though!" Bod said, shaking his head. "Those shorts are your pajamas!"

"So what?" Kate asked, only about half faking her not-following. Please, she hung out at home in her underwear, and barely batted an eye at wandering outside like that, either. "Who are you expecting to show up?"

"A lost traveler, perhaps?" Bod put forth, ignoring how unlikely that was to happen.

Kate wasn't going to let him ignore it, though. "That's not gonna happen." She put the tray down on the table. "Come on, I could basically sunbathe topless in this yard without a fear."

"Do you want me to take off my pants?" Bod asked, sounding very amused. "Is that what you're telling me I should do?"

"Yes," Kate decided without missing a beat. "Take off your pants or I'm gonna make you make your own breakfast."

"That's just unfair," Bod said, sound mock offended before taking his pants off and tossing them back inside the cottage. "Am I able to partake in your breakfast now?"

"Yes," Kate nodded, taking a seat. After leering at him a bit. "Dig in."

Bod shook his head and sat down, stretching his legs out and getting adjusted to sitting outside in his boxers. It wasn't something he did all that often, he couldn't help it.

"It smells amazing," Bod said, reaching to get himself a plate to pile some pancakes on it. "I think taking my pants off is a fair trade."

"Of course it is," Kate replied, smugly, as she reached for a plate of her own. "I make very good breakfast, I'll have you know."

"You do but most of the time we're either going out or bringing each other takeout," he said, grabbing some bacon and some fruit before sitting back and sighing at how relaxed and content he felt. "You can't blame me for not knowing just how well you cook."

"Well, I wouldn't want to get your hopes up that I'm just gonna randomly turn into the perfect housewife at some point," Kate teased, pouring syrup over her pancakes. "Better to keep my skills secret."

Not that she even had that many skills. Not at least if you considered how her brother was.

"You will never be a perfect housewife," Bod said and thought that was a compliment. "You will always be Kate Michelle Gregson, the girl who goes her own way."

[vanillajello]

"Aww, thank you." See, Kate totally took that as a compliment. "But y'know, there's a fucked up alternate future out there where I was married for like four years. You really think I wasn't a good little housewife then?"

Probably not.

"Probably not," Bod said, shaking his head. "I think you were a perfectly fine wife but in your own way. You're not one to conform to labels and the like. You do your own thing."

"Yeah, I think I just spent my time flitting about Marseilles while he did the business thing," Kate admitted with a laugh, cutting into her pancakes. "I'll never be Alice."

[therewaslife]

"I think Alice should only be Alice," Bod said, popping some bacon into his mouth. "You should be Kate. You're perfect as Kate and your mum can handle Alice."

For the most part.

"I want you to just be Kate."

"Aww." She reached over to stroke his arm a few times, just because. "Thank you. I think I can manage that, most of the time."

"If you can't manage it sometimes, just let me know and we'll just hide in a room and let the world go on around us," he said, covering her hand with his. "Until you feel more balanced, that is."

Kate sighed, and smiled. "You know, I know I kinda wonder about this a lot," she said, "but sometimes I can't figure out how I landed you of all people."

"Good luck and good timing?" Bod suggested playfully. ""Does there really have to be a reason on why you ended up with me? Sometimes good things just happen."

"Well, they don't generally just happen to me," Kate pointed out. "Not, like, boy-wise and stuff."

"This time it did," Bod replied, shrugging. "Really, I think you're the reason you ended up with me. You decided to let me in and you decided to let me stay."
